There's only ever been three kits of the Heinkel 162 and I think I've had them all.
What about Tamiya..?
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Thanks, Lee.
Can't wait to get mine.
Thanks for the update on the kit's "problems"....something for us all to play with though.

Now I've got some floats somewhere, suitable I'm sure.

just picked up a few (6) examples at my local model store, next step is to make a master unit for a butterfly tail and later engine unit !

at first glance id agre with Wooks, a really neat piece of moulding and an amazingly cost effective way to build up a collection of the types covered  B)

cheers, joe

Right having constructed the basic bits of 2 airframes yesterday a couple of pointers.

1) The fit of the forward fusalage to the wing/upper/aft fusalage is a little bit loose in the lateral plane. You need to clamp the lower joint flush in particular to avoid filler/sanding.

2) The sprue gates are all a tad thick but the one's for the engine nacelle leave a "difficult" to clean up burr. There also seems to be a little sinking here which will probably need a touch filler even if you separate the gates cleanly.

No major problem other then that (I'll leave the accuracy to Lee and others) and I'm definately geting another

Chris
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

IMPORTANT!!! ... something to watch out for is a severe shrinkage in the rear fuselage which results in the lower line tapering downward and a wierd 'waisting' to the under rear fuselage...two of my examples have this unfortunate glitch one of which unfortunately being virtually unusable for its intended purpose!

its definately worthwhile checking the moulding at the hobby store before purchasing...

cheers, Joe

ps. my examples so far are 2 in 'Gekko schemes' (one with X.4 missiles) and another as a 2 seat trainer with olive fuselage and bright orange wings, tail unit and nose...something different...the next being based upon the sharkmouth marked olive and black camouflaged Me.109 as flown by the founder of IPMS. I have received 1 yesterday and my conclusion is: dissapointing.
They may be good for kids, probably better that Revell's Easy kit series, but no more. Perhaps they are worth as bit donnors.

If I had to make a Salamander and do not have money or access to Dragon model, I would prefer Frog, honestly. IMHO, this HB model is worse in accuracy and it woulld be very difficult to correct, because of its structure. Canopy shape is just wrong.

In my eBay pack I also received 3 P-51s from HB, Hasegawa and Airfix. Being HB's one the most expensive, it is way the worst, fuselage so narrow that it does not look a Mustang
Will die without understanding this world.
