Got around to getting a pic of this one, following another discussion elsewhere of SH-3 Sea King Hind aggressor project I'm doing as well as some other US Army USSR helo aggressor proposals from about 15 - 20 years ago. It's an Airfix/MPC Puma with a modified FormaPlane Hind-A nose & odds & ends from the scrap box. It shows its age now-a-days, as I made it in early '85. One of my fav conversions!

Appropriate, as a Collector's Edition DVD of Red Dawn is due out in North America on 7/17. It's a two-disc set, hopefully loaded with extras, interviews with cast and director John Milius, and I would hope a director's cut of the movie, with deleted scenes added in (the DVD I have already has the theatrical trailer with secenes that did not make it into the final cut). And alternatehistory.com's forum has a movie/TV what-if section has a thread with a timeline of events in the movie and after.
Treat everyone you meet with kindness and respect; but always have a plan to kill them.

Sweet build Famv,

Squint your eyes and it looks like the real deal (as in a Hind A as opposed to a Puma knockup)

That was pretty much what I was thinking when I first watched the movie.

Very nice work, famvburg.
To the individual soldiers, *everything* is a frontal assault!

Thanks. I forgot to mention too that as can be seen, the canopy greenhouse is tinted, BTW, not blacked out. According to an article in a late '84 Rotor & Wing magazine, which is what I used for pics besides having seen the movie, dark tinted Plexiglass (or Lexan or whatever) was used to hide the stock Puma nose plus it added a sinister look to it. I used a spray window tint on it & it is slipped over the Puma nose, more or less like the real one. There are a couple of scenes in the movie where the Hind is turning in the sun & you can make out the stock nose. I thought that was cool & did the same. Unfortunately, it doesn't show in the pic, but when held in front of a bright light, you can see the Puma's nose beneath. AS part of the US Army's helo aggressor project, Aerospatiale proposed a Super Puma with Hind D vismods, winglets & even a forward cockpit attached to the nose. I often wonder if they got that idea from "Red Dawn". I've recently rounded up a Heller Super Puma & an old Hind kit to make that one. The caption to the drawing I have points out that the Super Puma's size & shape along with the vismods make it an excellent Hind surrogate.
