It can't 'really' be a VH-71A, it'll be their existing Merlin plastic with a new decal sheet and as such will probably actually represent one of the test airframes.

Do believe this is a rendering.

It'll be a while before any details of the interior are available.

Why is the US101 based on the army variant with rear ramp, and not the naval variant (ASW) without rear ramp? What would thye use it for? They dont have it on the S-61 based marine one, so why this one?

I can't make it out in the review, but does it come with the twin main wheel arrangement.  This is where Italeri made an error with the Cormorant and supplied the kit with only single wheels and it looks like they have done the same here.  I think the US101 is based on the Cormorant more than the other EH101's

lee. u aint the only one waiting for that trimoter.

Got the US 101/VH71 at the northern show, basicly the Cormarant kit with new decals.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Size (of the stash) matters.

Trip-7, I assume that the Army version offers more interior room for various systems that will be installed on the VH-71 and that LM/EH inc were intending for more that just the VMXX helo competition (I have a pic somewhere that shows the 101 in a whole range of US schemes).

One thing the VH-71 will not have is a big-assed sliding door on the stbd. side or the bubble window, Italeri have taken their typical easy way out.

As to B777's question, I'd say its too early to state exactly how the VH-71 will look, but LM is offering a single airframe design as a cost savings. The test airframe is a loaner from the Italians and the 'pictures' of the aircraft in Marine One livery are computer generated renderings. The actual layout will probably be closer to the Heliliner or the VVIP version on offer from Agusta-Westland:

Here is the pic Shas referred to:

As to the VH-3D being based on the standard shipboard S-61, its simple... the SH-3 was the best airframe available at the time, early 60s, and the ramp equipped S-61R version was a later development of the basic design.

Looking fwd to the VH-71

i have a copy of said kit and it is very good. usual italeri speculation but i feel that
they are to be thanked for taking the risk.   modifying mine to HH-71
USAF CSAR config' which may not be a wiff for much longer.
