I've decided to hand these(or at least some of them :P ) off to my nephew who likes models but lacks practice. These are all kits I either havent touched or irrevocably whiffed. The kid needs something more productive to do over summer than watch music videos on youtube, so why not give him a chance to burn away some brain cells using paint and glue fumes. :P

Naturally I'm going encourage him to think out of the box. Besides, the kid hates having to do complex paint jobs. Hell, luftwaffe camoflage scares ME

"Hey Richard, wouldn't that Comanche look a lot better in USMC colors? ...Do you really want that F-107 to be plain ol' silver? :ar: "

[edit]I've also added an ESCI A-7E to the departure list. I was considering a Hasegawa Mig-25 too but why kill a kid's enthousiasm by making him PSR up an 8 piece fuselage?

And oh what's this...a box labeled "Merlin Models?" He's bound to enjoy that :ill:

if your nephew can make a model of one of merlin models 'creations' then he is probably a better
modeller than many of us. you really do have a questionable streak in you,  :D

still he could have fun with these. me, i have several of these in the stash and still get nightmares
about the airfix  :tornado: now that is a  :ill: x10 kit

hmm, better make sure he can build at least one model with spats,  :P

the commanche is a good little kit better i think than RoG's offering of same

and as you saw its a great way to spend the summer holidays.

Hmm, the airfix tornado is a lousy(or at least hard)kit? I didn't know that. Mabye I'll keep that one for now. Most of these I've at least test fitted and figured they're relatively easy.

Hey wait... are the pieces suposed to come in four colors of plastic? Or five if you count "burned" as a color

i just did not like it, the airfix  :tornado: . you would be better off giving your nephew

an italeri  :tornado: easier to build, better decals and usually a more representative weapons load.

maybe the airfix  :tornado: would be better saved for him for another day.

Well, he does have some whiff in him for sure. The other day he asked why the US Army doesn't have any airplanes and if Allied planes in WW2 were so good, then why didn't Japan/Germany copy and produce the ones they captured?

:D Already at least two ideas for builds there!

What about the Hasegawa  :tornado:  and the Revell  :tornado: ? Are they more complex?

I've got the Airfix 1/72 GR.4/4A Torando (same kit as the GR.1 but with extra sprues) & it isn't a great kit.  Detail is sparse & the fit of the fuselage parts looks far from perfect, if not terrible.  It 'looks' right though.  One advantage of the GR.4 kit is the new sprue has some lovely new generation RAF weapons (& plenty of them, Storm Shadow, ALARM, RAPTOR recce pod, Paveway II & III)  & worth buying for these alone.  I wouldn't worry about letting your nephew have it, one of the ways we learn is from the kits that are far from the best.  I don't tar the Airfix 1/72 Tornado F.3 kit with the same brush though, it's a completley different kit & much nicer.

Can't comment on the Hase kit except for what I've seen on build articles.  Saw an article where the guy had measured it up the nearest micron (or whatever) & said it was a very accurate kit, with great detail & great fit.  Shame he didn't look at it!  To me the nose profile is all wrong, it's more of a bullet shape, but it seems that that's the only problem.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
