My Modeling Dilemma

OK, here's my problem...  I've got a great combo (a 1/48 ESCI/Ertl MiG-23 kit still in the bag plus the extremely rare Kazan MiG-23 resin-photoetch-decal upgrade).  It was originally intended as an Afghan War MiG-23, then (inspired by rallymodelers 'Wheat for Planes' posts) a RNZAF Canadair/MiG CF-123 in the low-viz green.  However, if I was to eBay it (as I've been doing with many of my surplus kits), I would likely make between US$100 & US$150.

Have you ever had a kit so rare, expensive or valuable that you second-guess yourself before building it?  I might end up building it anyway but >US$100 could buy several kits or buy a few school textbooks or buy a good rifle.

BTW: I am still building (it's Summer break).  I'm working on the stuff at the bottom of my post - right now, the Mirage F.1, the MiG-19 & the RCN A-4.

Well if I was in your place, I'd probably e-bay it. If you can make $100-$150 , you can sock some of that away for books or that new rifle and maybe hold a little back for another MiG-23. Squadron has one from Italeri in stock for $29.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but to me, the least expensive kits are every bit as good for whiffing as the top-of-the-line ones.

Sell it, buy a lot of kits for the money you make ;)

A quick check with Great Models shows that Italeri will be re-releasing the ESCI MiG-27.  I settled for the MiG-23 cuz that's what I have - but I think the MiG-27 would work better in the low-viz RNZAF scheme.

So, it looks like MiG-23 & Kazan kit will be sold...

Thanks &, Bryan

PS: I hope to have some pics of the MiG-19, Mirage F.1 & A-4 soon.  :)

Not so minority: I AGREE with you.

I think that this kind of models leave more space to creativity.

I agree too, unless your a collector, the urge is always to build.  I've noticed Italeri have the MiG-27 in production too.  Especially if it's the same kit, it'd be daft not to sell it & have more money left over!  The only question is, will the release of the Italeri kits bring the asking price down?  If so, I'd hurry up & get it on ebay!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I'm kinda in the same boat as far as my 2nd TSR kit is concerned, so "I feel your pain" as slick Willie would say ;)

Sell it!  Then take the profits to your local exotic dancing girl establishment and help out one of those single mothers that have been forced to make a living by dancing around a pole while getting her panties stuffed with dead presidents...  All the while you are consuming mass quantities of your favorite adult beverage.  The logic behind this is you never had the money to begin with so why not toss it away on something foolish.  Even the ugly ones look great after six drinks.

Or I could use it to finance my next Check-ride ;)
