Hi Greg,
its scanned from the book "Messerschmitt Bf 110/Me 210/Me 410" by Mankau and Petrick...the original German edition published by Atlantic Verlag. Schiffer has published a translation in the US since I purchased my copy. The Mankau/Petrick book is an outstanding reference on the Messerschmitt twins, loaded with photos and diagrams.

From what I can make out from the text (I kinda stumble my way through the Deutsch) the study was one of several that were commenced in 1943.

Cheers, Jon

John,

Does that book show the original design for the Bf110 that went into the wind tunnel?  I've seen a drawing of the wind tunnel model and it looks like a flying version of it would quite catch the eye.

Do you mean this one?

Just the drawing and a description, no photos.

That last one kind of reminds me of the operational De Havilland DH.88 heavy fighter I have planned.

Ah so. Something along the lines of the Bellanca 28-92 then?...a Ranger V-12 and a pair of Menasco I-6.

That's the image I have, I keep thinking that a blend between that and the final Bf110 version would make for a nice single- or twin-seat equivalent of the FW187.

Jon,

Kind of, though probably closer to the original DH.88.  At this stage, I'm keeping to 2 engines (though, these may be uprated versions); adding in two 20mm cannon and 2 (maybe 3 or 4) .303 MGs in the nose; making the backseat optional (it might be useful for a nightfighting variant).  I view this whiff as kind of a mid 1930s (say in service 1936) predecessor to the Whirlwind.
