OK there's several P.1027s (including my own) on this forum, and the P.1030 has been kitted by Unicraft, but there are no known drawings of the P.1032. This was a RR Eagle-engined Sea Fury, and my take on what it may have look like will start the day after tomorrow.
-
That's a P.1026 fitted with a Eagle to F.2/43 at least going by the information in BSP Fighters and Bombers 1935-1950
Gondor
EDIT: Just found out that the P.1026 is the Fury which became the Sea Fury :banghead:
-
Excellent ! Can't wait to see this one come together.
-
A bit of rhinoplasty last night, a bit more chopping tonight and then the fun begins. Pics at the weekend.
-
Here' the first pics of the 1032, based on a long in the stash Premiere2 Sea Fury plus a Falcon canopy, Aeroclub main undercarriage, and some resin (again from some years ago) mostly via OGL but also one item from The Wooksta:

Since these were taken I've assembled the wings and built up some sidewalls for the cockpit. I might add a bit more detail to the cockpit, certainly an instrument panel and control column.
-
Dave, the cockpit as provided is definitely wrong - the rear bulkhead is about 2mm too far back. It should align with an external panel line about 6mm aft of the windscreen.
-
Thanks Lee
-
You'll also need to build up the rear fuselage decking - it looks more like a Tempest. Aeroclub did a replacement canopy with a white metal insert for that area. Wheels are best replaced with Tempest ones. The resin leading edge radiators (I assume they're from me) will need some considerable trimming to fit - I've a yet unfinished Furious with l/e rads and they did need a lot of trimming.
You're too late to sand down the trailing edges as they're really thick. May have a spare wing somewhere.
Best of luck with this as it's one I'd planned but shelved. May still have a bash at some point, possibly with a Trumpeter one.
-
Yep, got the decking. And yep fell foul - in my haste - of the trailing edges.
Next Haker Hypertheticals after this will be a P1009, a P1030 and finishing off a P1067.
-
I may have a look at the P.1030 at some point in August. I have the requisite parts and donor kits. Just want to clear the decks of Spitfires - at least, the assembly to the priming stage - first.

I'm still looking for exhausts to enable me to build the P.1030 myself Lee

Yeah!, got that drawing from the Brooklands Museum and built my P-1027 from it, check out Gondor's Grumblings, reply #603.

That's the Eagle Tempest - do a search on here as several UK based forum members have done several.

Alistair, I might have a mould for the exhausts somewhere. I'll have a look.
-
Thanks Lee, much appreciated  Would you happen to have a couple of the leading edge radiators from the Typhoon II/Tempest I spare as well would you?

If Lee doesn't, I have which I can send you

Thanks for the link, Kitbasher.
Very interesting build. It was long before my arrival here and I had missed it. How many ideas for my stack of PM Hortens! ;D

Those sure are shapely and powerful looking machines ! Now I want to build one :banghead:

They do look particularly smart in that colour scheme. Having done a silver one myself I'd like to get the parts needed to do a variation with leading edge radiators - Wooksta's done at least one in the past and yes, very very sleek.
-
I decided that mine was to be a "jet" interceptor, flying at altitude and then diving down for the attack -- so camouflaged it Ocean Grey and PRU Blue.
Nicked the decals from one of my DH Hornet kits. Phil Butler suggested the serial number for me and of course it's "R" for Robert ;D.

TJ910 was a 'blanked' serial coming right after a batch of Yorks and before 200 Lancaster BVIs, all of which were cancelled! BAGS of scope for future Whiffs there. ;D
QV = 19 Sqdn. does it? Or had the codes changed by that late in the war?

Phil had said that numbers in the 'blanked' serials were probably about where the Tempest Mk.VII probably would have had serials assigned had it gone into production.
19 Sqdn. operated DH Hornets from March 1946 to January 1951 and the decals came right off a Special Hobby 1/72 kit of the Hornet which had the camo scheme as one of the options. I also gave the P.1027 a taller fin/rudder as every contra-prop aircraft I've read about eventually got a bigger area vertical tail

A basic cockpit interior has been put together, painted and inserted into the fuselage. Since the pics were taken the fusalage has been assembled and the wings attached.

Just bits of plastic card and rod chopped up and glued together. Seat straps are from masking tape. Not much to be seen now, frankly.

Looks good !

Progress has been positively glacial but I've not given up on this one yet. There's other in-build pictures but no point in posting those up now I've got this far. Devoting between 30 and 60 minutes a day to this now. Do wan't to get it done (and thanks Chris for the extension).

Looking cool, although I would have went with the low demarcation.
You really need an eight blade Wyvern contraprop. It really adds to the mean-ness factor. And Tempest drop tanks, plus the rocket rails from the Firedog Beaufighter.
-
Smooth work, kitbasher! That looks good. The lines of that machine really are lovely.
-
Looks pretty hot from here !

Looks intriguing. Hope you can finish it in time!

Me too! Mucho decalling and touching up to do between now and the deadline. It's the flippin' Korea stripes that'll do for me - at least the white is nice and opaque.

Props are tacked on for the photo. Looking like a junior Wyvern to me.
(and thanks for the positive comments, playmates).

Im likeing the look of this more and more Dave

Who isn't ! Great stuff....love the look of this. Very sleek and fast.

Does look a bit like a Wyvern Minor! Very nice!

Also agree, both that it's looking very nice and that it looks like a Wyvern on a diet.

Steal the wheels from a Heller Tempest, they're far superior to the kit examples.
-
Does look good
Not sure about the Wyvern on a diet comparison ? Maybe a baby Wyvern or a sub species found in the tropical rain forest ?

Yup, especially for Junior officers to learn on

Given the Wyvern's hunchback profile it looks to me like a Wyvern with good posture... ;D

That's correct, leading edge radiators like the real-world Tempest I and P.1030.
Thanks for the positive comments, guys.

Dave, wonderful work on the conversion and the paintjob, but as soon as you put Carmicheal's markings on it, you lost it IMO. Too obvious. Far too obvious. Korean Sea Furies ALWAYS have his markings on them and there's plenty of other options out there instead. RAN, for example as they flew Sea Furies in Korea.
-
I have been inspired, thanks
and here is the P.2032 Twin-Eagle-Fury

Final bit of modelling for 2016 - correct a fundamental schoolboy decaling error (not evident from the photos)plus add the underwing rocket rails and rockets. Pics in due course and will try and remember to put it next to my built Sea Fury; there's quite a different feel to 'my' P1032' - IMHO it's much sleeker and faster looking than the Sea Fury. Don't get me wrong, Sea Furies are amongst my favourite aircraft and they do possess a pugnacious elegance.
-
I'll get round to replacing the missing Photobucketed pictures in time, but here's a recent shot of the 1032 with rockets and additional decals (stencils) added:

I absolutely love this bird !

I'm with you there cap'n.
It's a year since I said it but I still maintain it looks like a Wyvern with good posture.
Still good.

I'd forgotten all about this stunner
