Hi all,
As I type the polls are being set and organised and I can confirm that they will be in place by end of play on Sunday 7th Feburary. You then all have two (2) weeks to cast your votes until 9pm BST on Sunday 21st Feburary.
The 2016 Whiffies Award show will then take place on Sunday 28th Feburary starting at approx 8.00pm BST. (Give or take a minute or two...)
Make sure you reserve your tickets, order in the tux and have plenty of beer and peanuts to hand.
Remember that directly after this most important of Awards shows, you can tune in to some other dodgy Award show thats in it`s 88th year and actually give out proper golden awards. Huh..., what do they know...? ;D

A mere bunch of amateurs...... ;D

Thank you tc2324- the Whiffies are always highly anticipated- thanks for all your hard work making it happen

Who's in charge of seat allocation?
I don't want to have to sit behind Kit again. He's too tall and refuses to remove The Hat so I couldn't see anything last year.
Also please make sure i'm out of range of Weaver as all he does is throw popcorn, giggle and fart.
Thank you.

:o

The Hat stays ON!!!
No-one knows who I am if I take it off........... ;D

The Whiffies are always highly anticipated in my house.

So that's 2016's personal hygiene sorted then!

Could be. Either that r the baked beans on toast served before hand ;D
I'm actually old enough to remember friends going down to the communal baths with their siblings  2 to a tub and it was booked by mum the week before

Please may I pre-book my drinks for the interval? Might I also request PLEASE don't serve my G and T in a plastic foam cup this time round. I ended up with a slug of gin and styrene last year as the spirit melted the container........and it's not a life enhancing experience.

I'll get a seat with NARSES2 then (the two different farts will cancel each other out, right? Right?).

One evening at a bike rally, a caterer ran out of cardboard food boxes and switched to using styrofoam ones for everything. This meant that, in the darkness, I ended up eating several mouthfuls of baked potato with melted styrofoam in the melted cheese before I realised. Definately not 'life enhancing' a few hours later.....

Great stuff. Can't wait...thanks !

I'll take the lot oh, ya on! I love hat wearing Whiffers, fartin' Whiffers, styrofoamed Whiffers, boozed up Whiffers! I love ya all! As long as you can put up with a loud, drunk, Aussie (in other words a normal Aussie), you'll be right! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Not to sure ???? I was award winning in my youth - seriously  Some of the lads have experienced the odd one or two so I'll leave it to them

For gods sake nobody smoke, please

Just wondering whether the recent reported H-bomb test was actually a gust of wind from OGL instead?

More likely, and much more dangerous, from Narses 2.

I think you could check out fallout radii here http://nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/ (Although Narses2 and Weaver aren't listed - perhaps SALT II misplaced them - the W-87, Topol and Dong Feng-5 are and should give reasonable approximations)

We arn't 'on' the map, we ARE the map.

Just to let you all know that while the `other` awards show seems to be having `diversity` issues, the Whiffies awards has had no such problems.
We have plenty of planes, bi-planes, tri-planes, airliners, bombers and fighters. ;D

There, that's better.

Just ever so slightly over 1 week to go till the polls are added and the voting can begin.
There are a couple of nominations where the pictures are now missing because they have been `removed` from which ever photo storage provider they use.
I`ve contacted those effected via PM, so please make sure your photo`s are available to view. I will still post the entry in the polls even if the photo is missing, but making sure it works and can be viewed is up to you guys.
Ta very much.

Hi all,
Just to remind you that the polls will be launched tomorrow evening and also some of the more observant will of noticed the change in years on some of the thread titles.
Hopefully it all makes sense, but just in case....,
This years 2016 Whiffies award show is held in 2016, but is all about the models that were nominated in the proceeding year 2015.
Therefore when nominating 2016`s models/whiffery, they will be honoured in the 2017 Whiffie Award show.
Simples...., I think.

There seems to be an issue with the voting - where two or more votes should be possible, the system only accepts one?
-
Which one Dizzy?
I`m getting terrible RSI
EDIT - Found it and all sorted
-
Yes, for me too, and reported elsewhere.
Will we be able to go back and add our extra votes though?

I`ll go back in and open the voting for you to complete your votes.

Magic, thanks.
-
Magic, thanks.
Hopefully anyone who could not complete their votes can now do so. If anyone is having a problem, please let me know.
That`s all the categories now posted and some will notice that Helicopters, ships and Dio`s are missing.
They are not.
The Academy only had one entry for each, so they automatically win by default. Hopefully in 2016 some more competition will be nominated.
You all now have two weeks to complete your votes and I`m now off to the doctors for RSI treatment. ......... Perhaps a JD or beer or three might help?
-
Wow, a few REALLY tough categories- I need more votes!
Thank you so much tc for putting on the show!
-Dave
-
Thanks for the nomination and thanks to tc2324 for all the work putting this together!
These choices were extremely difficult this year. I wanted to vote for all of them!

... triple ditto from me, wow, I need a drink from just looking, Mr. Mods you have done wonderfully well.
-
So, finally voted, everything worked fine (except for some tank pics?).
Thanks a lot for setting all this up - there was a BIG bunch of entries to filter through, you have my respect for this editorial task.
Now looking forward to the Big Show!
-
Many thanks indeed for putting this all together mate  That was very, very difficult. Great collection of models
-
Voted &, as usual, struck by how difficult the voting is around here, when one has so few votes to enter.
I know this is going to sound arrogant (because even the thought feels wrong) but I'm rather disappointed that my RAM Vietnam Fire Support Boat, Riverine, didn't make the cut for the kitbashes vote.
Although, I suppose, it's more of a "scratch-bash" (1/2 scratch-build, 1/2 kitbash) &, as such, is neither fish nor fowl. :-\
-
Quite the marathon...some votes took awhile. Thanks for this.

The Academy will have to hold their hands up to that one I`m afraid. Once we realised that their was only one ship, helicopter and Dio nomination, admittedly we didn`t look at other areas because you automatically won so parked you off to one side.
It`s something I`ll remember for next year. Sorry about that.
-
Very hard to choose but the deed is done.

Oh, bugger!
Didn't even think about that! Now I feel really bad! :banghead:

Don`t be. It`s not your fault you had the only ship nominated and it`s a great looking model.
The Academy felt it just couldn`t put a helicopter, ship or dio into some sort of miscellaneous poll for members to vote on as they are so different.
Hopefully next year some more ships, copters and dio`s will be nominated.

Agreed  I for one am not fond of the miscellaneous category
-
I sometimes wish I had enough ego to self-promote. I was looking back on what I built last year and the two I was most proud of were the Jägermeister and Gulf Oil racers. Pretty things...got about £160 for them off Ebay, now I almost wish I'd kept them. Going to try for some other racer-ideas if I can get my mojo going again...completely dead in the water right now ;D.
-

I know how you feel. I have three nominations this year but they are not my best work on here this year not by a long chalk. Should we be allowed to nominate one of our own, maybe a Narcissus category? Would be nice to know which of Dizzy's he thought was best.
Anyway this is not a criticism of the good work done by the Whiffie committee, they can only work with what is in the 'Sway' thread.
-
Chris (NARSES2) is constantly reminding us to post models we like in the Nominations thread, and yet I STILL forget to do it! :banghead: :banghead:
Not sure how I can sort that issue out.
-
I have had to swallow my pride and self-nominate before. Some great builds get overlooked/lost in the shuffle especially during a group build, and not that many people nominate. It is a slippery slope as someone's pride and joy could be a terrible blob of plastic to eveyone else, but if you honestly see your build being up to the standards or originality and/or quality, go ahead and self-nominate. It helps build up some categories. And no this does not mean every build should be nominated. We need to respect the quality of the WHIFFIES- not all are worthy to be (self) nominated.
I do find it a pain to nominate someone else as if I think I am to do it correctly I am supposed to save their picture at an offsite photo hosting site (I use photo-bucket) and then repost their picture (as to not bust the WHIF server) a link to their build, and recommend a category. Happy to be corrected if it is ok to just post their picture directly.
I also vote a silly category would be nice. The recent barn door flyer, the Euro Trash truck, the Nemo painted submarine etc. were all fantastic builds, but perhaps not best in post WWII jet, vehicle or ship categories?

Follow your impulse - that's what I do. When I see something new and "feel something", I immediately post it.
Considering nominations: I agree that some great pieces got lost in the GBs and did not make it from there to the Whiffies list. That should be kept in mind this year.
Self-nomination should only be a last resort, though, maybe reserve it for the more exotic non-aircraft categories?
Anyway, follow your urges, and nominate - everyone! This is not an exclusive duty - after all, the Whiffies are true board awards and basically very democratic.

I always post their pic directly. I hit the 'quote' button on their thread and found the URL of the pic I wanted to show, highlighted it and 'copied', then pasted it directly into the nomination post.
If that's wrong no-one's ever complained about me doing it, and it'd be silly anyway.
-
I`m lucky and grateful that I have two nominations this year.
But like everyone else with some of their work, I`m a bit disappointed that my best bit of work was never put forward.

How'd we ( and by we I mean 'they' ) miss that one ? There should be a holdover category or somat for something that good.

That's the point though... I've seen whifs and thought 'that deserves to be put into the sway thread' only to find it already has. So now I'm thinking if I like so must someone else and .... I don't check the Sway and low and behold it doesn't get included. Maybe we should just post the title and the link to the thread or, and I've seen this on other forums, have a 'Like' button that records your user name on the thread. Would work in the Group Builds as well.
-
It would seem that some flaws/lessons have been highlighted in this years whiffies, with probably the main one being what Bungle said in that everyone assumes a good model has already been nominated.
It takes me a good couple of weeks to go through the nominations list each year, so adding another day or so to delete duplications wouldn`t be a complete nightmare. I`d just be happy that the nomination was there.
The success of the whiffies is down to you lot, building stuff and then someone else ideally nominating it if they feel it is worthy. And when I say worthy, it does not have to be the best looking or best constructed model. I have voted in the past for the concept rather than the skill. That is basically what `what if` is all about. Stretching the bounds of your imagination to something your comfortable with.
I hope that the whiffies and nomination process continues and perhaps some of you will be a bit more diligent or fourth coming in nominating a great piece of work.
That is all. ;)

Whole-heartedly second that. And it is not a shame to make a nomination - everything is subjective, just as the Jury's work. So it's better to have a big pot to chose from, also for a variety of styles and ideas.

Is there some way to have a link at the top of every page saying something along the lines of "LIKE IT? CLICK HERE TO NOMINATE IT FOR NEXT YEARS WHIFFIES".

Not sure how easy that is? And if I`m honest, in my experience, you could have a stunning naked lady jiggling her bits about whilst shouting loudly to `nominate this to the whiffies`....., and still people would miss it.

Ok, voted too. Big thanks to you tc for organizing all this! Always a great pleasure to go through the categories and see all those creations. Not always easy to vote, since there are so many great entries and they'd deserve all a whiffy.
Looking forward now to the award show.
