Just one note: isn't the area of each wing on a biplane smaller than the area of a corresponding monoplane? (theoritically, but what-ifism does not care, I agree)
You just have to love that 'ol lozenge camo...neat idea, would have been one hell of a barnstormer !

Scooterman, I actually live in the city...Shadyside/Friendship...and I've got the gouge in my paycheck from the Occupation Tax to prove it! If you like good Belgian beer and pizza, I know the perfect place.
As to the wing areas on each biplane wing being smaller than those on a monoplane of similar size, that is indeed correct. There's some sort of aeronautical formula for determining the necessary wing area, but I'm too much of a peasant to be able to quote it.

Just to understand: does Burgh means Pittsburg, USA, or Edimburgh, Scotland, UK, or else? :) I leave near Bourg (French pronounced as the English Burgh), the World is so small! ^_^
Tophe I just knew we had something in common for I too am a fellow 'Burgher! In this case, da Burgh is Pittsburgh, PA in the U.S. (third notch in the Rust Belt before Cleveland, OH and Gary, IN).

I am surprised. I remember when I was 12 years old, learning USA in geopraphy course: Pittsburgh was illustrated as the coal city: all dark, all grey, all sad, with smoke and dust only... Maybe that would explain the bright colours of the Bf 109 biplane: perhaps inhabitants there need badly colours... But why regretting to be in Oregon, that was presented as a forest paradise, close to British Columbia Heaven? Maybe my memories are a little blurred, sorry... ;)

Pittsburgh doesn't look that way now. 99% (or close to that) of the steel mills and coal mines are long gone. You can fish the rivers in the area and not worry about getting some sort of toxic nasty. Couldn't say that 20 years ago!
As for Oregon, yes it is very beautiful but I live in the middle of the state and it's 3 hours any direction to normal civilization. :P

About an English fighter surprisingly biplane, do all of you know the Hurricane variant designed with a second plane, full of fuel, to increase duration in flight for night patrol if I remember? This extra wing could be jettisoned if the enemy appears, to produce the normal Hurricane, that explains why the low wing was 'as usual'. Maybe this Bf 109 would have been designed for a similar goal, despite its WW1-like camo (for fun :P )...
Ahhh Oregon...Scooterman you are living my dream. I spent many pleasant afternoons sipping microbrews on the patio at McMinamin's after browsing Powell's....but that's in Portland. I don't know if you've ever hiked the Columbia River Gorge (still north of you) but it's worth the trip!
Tophe my friend, it seems our thoughts often run on parallel tracks. When I first saw this Me-109 biplane what came to my mind was the Hurricane "slip wing" variant which was created for long-distance ferrying duty. The top "slip wing" was only used to get the aircraft airborne after being overloaded with fuel. Once at cruising altitude, the upper wing was jettisoned. Look out below!

P.S. The Belgian Beer/Pizza place I was alluding to is the Sharp Edge, a stone's throw from my tiny cottage. University of Pittsburgh alumni might have fond memories of Larry & Carol's Pizza, especially their stoner's special, Pizza Duo.
