My attempt at scratchbuilding - this is the PAWS - Projectile Approach Warning System. Designed to warn the pilots of the approach of a shoulder launched SAM or RPG from the rear quadrant, the current vogue in how to down a chopper. So I figured the crew needed some help were their blind spot was concerned. I found it in the spares box.
Did I miss anyone?
Sorry about the white borders, I tried cutting and pasting my piccies to try and reduce the file size a bit - which it did, but no white border would make it even smaller...

Nev, this is just brilliant! Congrats mate!
And what happened to Minister Pommerleau after his, huh, \"incident\"?
Can you tell us about Colonel Lacombe's exploit in Norway?
And I heard that section \"Alvis\", flying stealth Arrows played a crucial role in this conflict...
And you forgot to mention John Chung, the radar operator, who was crucial to the operation!
What squadron are these birds from? Montréal's 438 \"Wildcats\"?
:G :t :pl :pl :dr :aa :h :TT :-/
Awww, go on Nev, please, pritty please, I'll buy you a pint at the Nat's.... :s
:dr :zz :dr

Hey Steve...speeking of beers....I bought some 'old speckled hen' tonite...not bad...tastes an awful lot like Bodingtons. Good thing I grabbed 4 newcastle brownies just in case ! Always a good beer the day after, that....
and Nev...I'm working on an HO4S right now...choppers, choppers, choppers, choppers....... :aa
With the impending demise of the current site, and Toms busy schedule, I figured I may as well post the piccies here rather than wait n see if they make it onto the front page.
The kit is the Italeri 1/48 Comanche, which as the regulars will know, was meant to be my Canadarama, till the kitchen intervened...

Thought I'd get some nice close ups of those maple leaf things, you know how Toad gets all worked up about 'em!
Cockpit detail is adequate, and both canopies can be posed open, so (if you can be bothered) a resin or EB set would really look good - and be visible without an endoscope! The weapons bays can be posed open too, but I couldn't be bothered, and the spare stingers and hellfires now reside in the spares box :)

Didn't the Royal Marine detachment on South Georgia blow a hole in an Argie Corvette when they invaded using another one !!!!
Like Ollie says Nev, just Brilliant. The story line cracked me up, I've not laughed like that for a while, and the bird itself is awsome. Bloody well done mate...
:dr
Beautiful Nev, great model, great scheme, great story!
Hey...that's not a bad idea there Nevster......a chopper build !
Following the Islamic revolution in 2009 that swept through Saudi Arabia, the 14 RAH-66 Comanches on order for the Kingdom were embargoed by the US government. The Canadian armed forces had for several years been looking at supplementing their aging Bell 412 helicopters with a small force of "silver bullet" attack helicopters – the Comanche being the armed forces helicopter of choice, but the high cost of any new purchase had always stalled any attempts at a purchase.
However, Canadian defense minister Pomerleau was finally able to secure a small force of Comanches by purchasing the now surplus Saudi helicopters at cut price from Boeing who were glad to be able to sell the aircraft at little more than cost (It was the high point of the spectacular, yet short political career of Pomerleau who had risen to Minister of Defense, only for his career to be dramatically ended when after an all day "Hockey night in Canada" special which involved several crates of Molson, he rang the press to drunkenly inform them of his grand idea to split the Canadian Armed Forces back into its constituent parts, starting with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He might have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for repeated references to the Detroit Deadwings and how they were "cheating cry-babies" and that they "sucked").
The hardest thing about building this was the long, flat joins that required a lot of sanding and filling...tedious.
Note the mast mounted sight - pinched off a 1/72 KA-52 chin turret. Not the same as the MMS currently being tested on the Comanche, but who cares? The kit, being of the early prototypes is already innacurate due to it having no MMS and I believe the tail config has been changed too.

Thanks Ollie. Minister Pomerleau resigned in disgrace and a series of investigations revealed that he had been taking kickbacks from Molson breweries, namely, crates of beer! It explained many of his bizarre voting habits.
Colonel Lacombe took his choppers back after the crisis was over - Russia just wanted to feel important for a while. If you want to command 438 squadron \"Wildcats\" then you can my son!
I didn't realise John Chung was a canuck....
And Jerry, you're right, the roundels on the stub wings probly are overkill, I was originally gunna put one on top, just behind the rotor and another underneath the fuselage, but changed my mind.
Ha ha ha !
Good one, Nev ! Your story was a treat to read....but I always dreamt I'd move on to run the country, and then eventually....the world ! But it's NJ I can't stop whining about now......dirty buggers ! Go Ducks ! ( I can't believe I just said that ! )
And since Ive still got a few years before all this happens...I'll have to rethink my strategy....I don't want Colonel Lacombe stealing my job...he doesn't drink enough !
As for the model...looks good ! And no *blue* in site ! The Northern Flank revival sounds awesome.....if only we could slap a little white on the old Hornets and go over now and again, like the CF-5's in the good old days.....
Cheers !
Woo-hoo!!
So we'll have Comanches to roam over Montréal!
Yes!!!
Aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I saw one of 438's CH-46 Griffons fly by yesterday :o)
It made my day!

And Toad, I'm slowly sneking up on your projects!

Shut it Toad or I'll have to hit that edit button... :TT
\"Todd Pomerleau, Conservative MP for Sarnia and a staunch right winger...\" :TT :TT :TT :TT
The CH-166 Comanche entered service with the CAF (not RCAF, despite Pomerleaus best efforts) in 2011 and were highly prized assets by the Canadians, particulary on the many peace-keeping missions performed by Canada throughout the world. The Comanche's combination of blistering speed, jaw-dropping agility, stealth and advanced targeting and acquisition systems made it invaluable. Of the 14 aircraft 8 were kept on active duty based at Alvis, Nova Scotia and the remaining 6 were allocated to a reserve squadron.
In 2013 the Russian government started making threatening noises towards Finland in an attempt by the hardline communist government to revive the spirit of the old Soviet Union. Alarmed by this, Norway asked for help from NATO. Among the units deployed during the crisis were the Canadian Comanches, including the reserve aircraft, led by weekend warrior Colonel Olivier Lacombe. The Canadian contribution, under the codename Operation "Howling Moose" saw the Comanches forward deployed at a remote location in Northern Norway, known as "Viper 29". The helicopter shown depicts one of these Comanches in its Arctic camouflage scheme.

Thanks Steve, just don't expect to see another one anytime soon!
Hey Toad, at one point I had you down as a Conservative Defense Minister, but I reckoned that was pushing the boundaries of realism too far!
Aircav, the only way you'll see me building another chopper is if we do a comp were I could my Seahawk (last chopper to build in the stash) as a Wif. Otherwise, it will reside at the bottom of the to do pile for a while longer...
A chopper build.....ummmmmmmm........now there's an idea :s

Hey, are local Co-op has some Indian lager in called Cobra, 660ml bottle, 5% and 2 quid a bottle, not bad either :dr

Yeah, at some point, the entire first 75% of this thread's images were lost to me, too.
At first I thought I had my PC's security set too high but it's still like that, just placeholders for all the first images on this thread.
