This was a charity shop purchase in 2024 or earlier. It's the Hobbycraft kit with lots of aftermarket bits. It's on show at Model World Live at the NEC this weekend. It's attracted quite a bit of praise and attention.
New u/c legs, wheels, rocker covers, rudder, tailplanes and cockpit along with aftermarket decals. Painted in a Humbrol Authentics FAA dark blue and long OOP.
I noticed it y'day Trevor, and so did quite a few of the spectators, you don't see 'black Spitfires' very often of course. ;D
What was the story behind the radically enlarged rudder?
That's one VERY dark blue! :o
Nice job, Trevor!

Because I wanted it so. Actually the idea is more complex. I have a 1/72 Spitfire built up largely from spares in Battle of Britain colours as a preserved one at some obscure RAF base in the 1950s. This is similar but FAA. It's a very rare Humbrol Authentics colour. The rudder could have been even larger but a bit was cut off the bottom.

Nice. You rarely see purple spinners. We should all work to correct that. ;D

It's to be extremely picky Identity blue actually. A very old Gloy enamels colour.

Now there's a name to conjure with! AGES since I heard them mentioned.
Looks purple to me but then the usual caveats re. camera, eyes, screens, software, level of tiredness (i'm just off to bed) and lighting apply so i'm not going to argue.
I am however going to put a purple spinner on something at the next available opportunity.

Don't remember paint but I do remember paper glue in a conical plastic bottle with a red rubber cap you pressed against the paper to open a seated slot to let the glue flow.
