Hmmm, what to build.  It needs to be a kit with exemplary fit whiffed in a way which will avoid much PSR, and painted in a simple scheme.

So not an Airfix Stirling then? ;)

I might have a go at the RN Skydiver project I intended to do last year before Events ("events, dear boy, events"- bonus points if you know who said that) intervened. Nothing got done on it so it's still as legal now as it was then. Not making any promises though: my aunt's house in on the market now so I have no idea how much time I'll have that week until, well, that week.

I wouldn't participate, anyway - I have trouble completing a single figure in a week, let alone an entire kit!

However, even if I wanted to, Life has thrown up a fun challenge over the next few months - my wife started chemo on Friday.

The oncologists weren't going to do anything unless/until the tumours became symptomatic, but, on closer examination by a peer review team, they realised that the largest tumour was leaning against her right femoral artery & vein. Therefore, to reduce the risk it poses to the circulation in her leg they decided that shrinking the tumour before it caused any issues was the wiser path.

So, starting Friday just gone*, every Friday morning & an hour(ish) every Saturday morning for the next few weeks is going to be spent at the hospital while she gets an infusion of chem's.

After the first month it drops back to one chemo cycle per month.

It also buggers up her 60th in mid-June & puts going over to see our second grandchild in jeopardy when he/she is born (soon) because chemo = very weakened immune system & Wombat Minor is a 2yo Germ Bomb, like most children his age.

Anyway: No, I won't be participating. ;)

[*: Last Friday was the longest session, being the first day, & the poor ol' girl was stuck in the chair for 8 hours being infused, she took it surprisingly well, really.]

I managed to produce this a couple of years ago

The mantra for doing so is

Keep

Stupidly
Simple

So basic colour scheme and as few parts counts as possible.

Not entering this year as I need to have a workbench to model from.

I... I don't have anything.  I have multiple unstarted kits, but they're all dedicated to projects.  Real world projects.  I have whiffs but they're started and beyond.

Oh my, I don't recall this ever happening before.

Old Wombat, hoping for the best for the better part of you.

Sorry to hear it Wombat - I've seen somebody go through chemo many years ago, and that was no fun at all (she was very scared of needles, just to add to the fun), however I'm told that they've got MUCH better at it since then and the impact and side effects are much reduced nowadays. Best wishes, patience and courage to your good lady and yourself.

Theoretically I agree with this, but empirically, every time I've done a KISS build for the 1WkGB it's been an also-ran, but every time I've done something stupidly ambitious it's either won or at least been highly praised, so... I'm always torn these days. Totally right about simple paint schemes though: no amount of ambition will make paint dry faster...

From Mrs Wombat: Thank you all for your kind wishes!

So far, not so bad, although the oncologist says the middle of week two (after the third chemo round) will be the worst.

There is quite a long list of rather unpleasant potential side-effects but they don't expect her to really suffer from any of them, although her kidneys have been playing up a bit since late yesterday (it's either that or "wind", which is a listed side effect).

Funny you should mention a fear of needles, H. ;)

Mrs Wombat is very nervous of them & always has been (hence the immoral support of yours-truly). However, this is exacerbated by actual autonomic, post-traumatic responses (she's had a few very bad experiences in hospitals which have left both physical & mental scars), as opposed to a mere somatic "fear" of needles. So, next Friday, they'll be using an ultra-sound scan to guide in the canula for the infusions because her veins kept running away last Friday.

Oh I bet Chris it's more than a dozen  ;D
The build in me head is super simple really..fact I could the entire model in less than a day easily and the vehicle is pretty damn easy anyway so yeah I think it'd be doable  <_<

It's the paint job that usually causes over-runs mate.
I was toying with the idea of something Vietnam era in SEA camo for this but I doubt i'd pull off three colour camo and the underside in a week.

No doubt about the painting..always the slowest part for sure ..especially aircraft..even a simple paint scheme isn't fast ..an armoured vehicle though has the edge there..one colour most times..the weathering can be the biggest problem..how far to go with it ..I don't like new  ;D
My vehicle is chosen..the annoying part is the turret..ive got 3 at this point to choose from ..nope 4  :banghead:  ;D

Just park them in the motor pool. If they are dirty someone will be yelling at the crew to get it to the wash rack asap!

That could make an interesting diorama......
Tank on a wash rack getting hosed down with a Sargent Major glaring at the crew!

I've decided to sit this GB out. I've got enough on my plate at home this particular week.

And I'm working on an idea for the Tophe & Robert Memorial Build as well. Not sure if it's even practical yet and it needs some measuring and serious thinking about first.

The day has turned out busier than expected.  I'm going to start this evening then push away any demands on me (I'm seriously tempting the Gods with that statement) tomorrow and crack on.

Oh, minor point ,I've got to make my mind up as to what I'm building... :o

So I'm just gonna watch from afar and enjoy what you chaps come up with  ;D

Only 2 days left and to be honest I have about 4 hours before work tomorrow and about 11 hours on Sunday. I honestly don't think I'll be able to finish both things, maybe the Avia too if I put the T41 aside. What do you think of your projects?
Title: Re: One Week Build 2024 - General Discussion.
Post by: Mossie on June 14, 2024, 11:12:14 AM
I'm similar little chance to finish mine.  I've been a bit off-colour so I haven't felt like modelling much.  I'm also pretty busy Sunday so even if I spent all my available waking hours at it, it'd be unlikely.  I'm feeling a bit better so I'll do some more on it over the weekend.  The main motivation for me was to kick my mojo into gear, which it's helped with somewhat.

Sadly illness this week has hammered my hoped for modelling time. Coming home from work and going straight to sleep three days in a row will do it :(. However, the mojo has started to trickle back after a long hiatus so I will do what I can and get the threads moved should the time come :)

Anywhere east of Muscat: you should have put you glue, modelling knife and paintbrush down by now!

Mainland Europe except Portugal: just about 90 mins to go.

UK and Portugal: just about two and a half hours to go.

Every to the west you've got a bit longer.
