Good video here from Drachinifel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WStdZfpVyCY
Plenty to chew on here for all those people who like re-building Iowas: 4 x Talos, 12 x Tartar and 16 x liquid-fuelled IRBMs anyone? :o
Just finished watching that ....
I never realised supposedly intelligent people, with a war's worth of experience behind them could be so, well, daft! :o
It gave me a lot to laugh at ;D ;D but a whole bunch of :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
I haven't watched the video yet, but I am aware of the ship proposal. There were a lot of conversion proposals for the Iowa class battleships from the 1950's and all the way to the 1990's.
One decent book I have is below which explains some of the conversion proposals.
And if I'm not too mistaken, there's a person who goes by the name of Tzoli who has a DeviantArt account/gallery where he's created/posted some Iowa conversion artwork. Below is a sampling of some of his drawings.

Drach's video uses both the book cover and some of Tzoli's profiles.
After just now finishing watching that video, I can certifiably say that a bunch of Admirals were either smoking too much weed and/or drinking too much booze when coming up with a lot of those post-WWII battleship designs, particuarly the American designs for the Iowa class battleships. :drink:
Thank God a lot of those conversions were never done. They might look good on paper, but in reality..........NO.
The video was "nice" in learning about the history of post-war battleship conversions. But I for one have no interest in building any models with any of the conversions mentioned.

To be honest I kinda do, just for the sheer bat-poo-poo-crazy loony-tunesness of it...
There is one person I know, David is his name, but he isn't a member of these forums that I'm aware of, that started to build an Iowa battleship with the aft turret removed and in it's place were twin-arm launchers for Standard missiles I think. His model conversion wasn't of the 1950's/1960's timeframe, but rather looked more 1980's.
A few pics are below that I saved from long ago. To the best of my knowledge, I don't think he ever finished building the conversion. :( Pity.
Yeah those are Mk.26 launchers, first seen in the 1970s on the Virginia class nuclear cruisers.
Nice project.
