Started this as an experiment to check whether the wings and engines of a Horten H0-229 could be extended in a four engine swallow shaped wing. It's going to be cut in the middle and put on a luft '46 fuselage ( still experimenting with shape of fuselage incl a 1/48 BV-141 tailboom).

So the answer: is yes it can be done. The part in the middle is an Ho-229 B (PM Model) and the outer engines and wing are Ho-229 A ( also PM model).
Cheers,

Nice idea.
Makes me wonder about a similar build made from the much better Revell Go 229? Hmmm....
I shall be following this with interest David.
Some pictures front and top. See the staggered position I wanted to create, like a Myasischev M4.

Four engines look very good

Nice. With a smaller cockpit this would work well as a scale-o-rama-ed 1:144 Nurflügler bomber?
I might seriosuly steal that four-egine idea, it looks really good.

You're welcome Dizzy. Note that the engine/ducts in the PM Model Ho-229 V7 are a little longer than the Ho-229 A, giving that nice staggered effect. As I went on with the 4 engined version I also bought some Revell Ho-229's.....
David
I will probably try to mash two Revell Go 229s together, some day. Idea is a fast bomber (could be a 1000x1000x1000 profile contender) with a closed bomb bay behind the cokpit (maybe modded for a crew of two?), a revised landing gear with a different front wheel arrangement, and slightly extended overall to blend the trailing edge(s) together. Engine fairings will be a challenge, but probably nothing that some PSR could not mend.
Brilliant plan and seems very doable. I like the 1000x1000x1000 concept you plan to build. It could be an 1/144 project, but just like you I plan to use it in a 1000x1000x1000 concept aswell but in 1/72.
I plan to combine both Ho-229 engines annex wings, upgrade the intake and exhaust with home made resin copies of Me-262 intake and exhausts, fill the trailing edge and cut the middle fuselage in half. Both wings plus engines a will be put on a 1/48 Ar 234 fuselage (extended by combining two fuselages) or a 1/48 Bv-141 fuselage-tail section with a vacuumed canopy (parabol shaped) and a V-tail.
Nice idea!!
Weekend update:
The seperate parts of the hortens got cleaned in the laste weeks. To make the intakes look a little more interesting, some turbine faces were found ( home made resin). Same goes for the exhaust. The parts shown are copies of F-18 exhausts. they fit quite well in width of the humps giving the hint of buried engines. To make the exhausts interesting aswell, I'll put some tubing behind the resin F-18 exhausts and do a resin spike cut to length in the tube. The resin spikes I made are in the upper right hand side in the picture below.

Weekend update:
I wasn't really happy with the turbine faces, so I changed them to 1/48 Horten Ho-229's. Also put spikes in the exhausts got it all assembled and puttied all gaps and cuts.

Next up is some PSR-ing.

And another luft '46 project on the table is this Arado ( probably)...

I'm liking what's going on here David mate ;D
Neat!

Couple of interesting projects
Interesting beast.
The exhaust is under the tail?
The nose looks like the venerable Lindberg Ar 234, I cannot identify the wings, what's their origin?

Exhaust will be under the tail. You're right the fuselage is a shortened Lindberg Ar-234. The wing are from an Macchi MB 326.
What your opinion on the 4 engines Horten?
Wow ! This is looking really neat ! I love the look of the little guy.

Aaargh! I should have recognized the MB 326 wings!
The 4 engined Horten is very good, but you have a difficult PSR job in front of you. What will you do for the tail?
Cut the external wings shorter or add more plastic to lenghten the central part?
Quote from: 63cpe on May 06, 2024, 01:36:50 PM...What your opinion on the 4 engines Horten?
Batplane. Paint it Black and Red...
Yeah, there is a lot of PSR-ing to be done to the Horten. Meanwhile the tail section is filled with some plasticard and putty. Now there is even more standing to be done..
I bought an Ar-234 cockpit upgrade set to install in the "little guy" and proceed to installing the exhaust.
@zenrat, nice suggestions. Maybe do another one in batplane guise.
I do have some other, more drastic plans for this one. I'll cut it to end up with two wings and two engines each. Both wings will be put on a 1/48 bv-141 tail/engine boom. Front of the tail boom will be a transparent parabol like canopy.

Time for an update of the work in progress:
First a split between "the little guy" now baptized into Arado E.530: The maingear from an Mb.326 was tacked on to it but needed it for the suddenly emerging Fouga CTL project. So a rummage in the undercarriage bin got me a Meteor main gear and an Airfix Lightning nosegear. I didn't like the wonky, but original, Lindberg Ar 234 nose gear and the meteor gear was a tad longer anyway. So off with the Ar234 leg and a slightly shortened Lightning gear was on it resulting in a horizontal sit.
The black spots is paint to fill small pockets in the filler. It'll be sanded out and it's off to the paintbooth. I plan to do it in a late ww2 mottled RLM 81, 82 83 combi.
