Title: LF 1/72 PB4 Y2 or RY-3 Privateer wings
Post by: 63cpe on January 15, 2024, 12:46:55 PM
For a new Luft '46 project I am looking for a pair of 1/72 PB4 Y-2 wings without the undercarriage.

I do understand this is a rather tall request for key parts that's why I am interested in a full kit aswell.

Oh, I'm in the Netherlands (Europe) and willing to trade kits/parts/cash. Please PM if you can help me.

I have a slaughtered Privateer with wings, but the landing gear wells are filled with putty. If good enough, let me know. They're yours against the freight cost.

Which project are you looking to do?

@Pellson : that would be a great! I would fill or cover the wheelwell anyway...
Sure i'll pay for the P&P....will PM you.

@Wooksta there will be two 1/48 Arado 234 (a B2 and a C3/4) involved.. 1 lengthening the fuselage of the other. The C3/4 donating its dual engines (split in length to accommodate U/C ) to the privateer wings. It'll be a scale o rama as it's actually in 1/72 so a He-111 cockpit will be shoehorned in. Maybe add some barbettes. The result is supposed to look a little like an XB-46 (minus the teardrop canopy) in late ww 2 german camouflage.

What a great community this is!

Is just a fictional project or one that was actually drawn up?  If it's the latter, is a Privateer airfoil correct as iirc German designers didn't use that profile?

It a fictional project. But sticking close to reality. I guess the airfoil and speed of the jet engines wouldn't match. Too much drag

The one that springs to mind is the T tail He 343 type thing that the Russians flew postwar.

Yeah, know what you mean. An ilyushin il-22 like project is also planned, just a tad bigger than the original one.

The XB-46 like project will be bigger than the He-343 but in shape you're about right. Only the canopy will be different, mor AR 234 like. I'm still thinking about doing a more slender/pointed canopy myself and vacuum form it.
Maybe add an il-28 rear gun post to it

Yeah, the thickness of the B-24 Davis wing is CONSIDERABLE. I'm using them on my Ju 588 project and had to spend some time with a hefty file reducing that thickness. Thank goodness M'box were generous with their styrene...........
