Title: French Vultee Vengeance Torpedo bomber
Post by: The Rat on April 07, 2022, 06:40:48 PM
Coming along in fits and starts, like all my victims projects. Decided to try one of those weird wild and wonderful freehand schemes that a lot of French aircraft got. With brushes it will look a little crisper, but I'm not shelling out for an airbrush just yet. The green is Model Master RAF Dark Green, the brown is unknown because the label fell off decades ago. They aren't perfectly accurate, maybe not even close, but MFM! Still needs touch up in areas, and maybe a few more blobs. The brown is gloss, but it will all be given a dull coat anyway.

Not only was the camouflage pattern done on a freestyle basis (it was thought that this might put an attacking pilot off when attempting to strafe a line up of aircraft) but there were also a couple, at least, of variations to the colours used. The French were in such a mad rush to rearm in 1938/1940 that they weren't too bothered about ensuring everything came up to the official specification and took a pragmatic approach.

The cowling is progressing. Mask, paint, mask, paint, mask... Plenty of touch-up expected once all the stripes are done.

Hateful.  I detest the nazi allies and collaborators with a passion you can barely dream of.

As do I. So I'm probably showing my ignorance here; was it only vichy (spit) aircraft that had this nose design? If so, it's gone, ASAP!

I use the classics, either brake fluid or caustic soda solution.

I've been meaning to pick up some Dettol, but brake fluid was within reach, and I wanted that treasonous crap off there right quick.

She's got legs. Still some work to do on fiddly stuff, and slinging that torpedo underneath (thanks Chris!). There was another paint disaster, but I don't think it could be one of my builds unless that happens.  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

Is that the old FROG kit?

It looks wonderful, and wholly plausible too.

One benefit of French camouflage is that there was no defined scheme it was all freestyle  ;)

Yep! You'll notice that the Vichy (spit) markings on the cowling have been stripped, I didn't know anything about them until Wooksta commented, and I DO NOT WANT THEM!

Thanks. The laptop is an Acer Nitro, built for gaming. I've never gamed, and don't plan on it, but I'm getting into some video stuff and needed something with a much faster graphics card than the desktop, so procured this at a half-decent price.
