On Steve McColms request: This is supposed to be a step by step tutorial in how to show pics of your favourite kit/pet/car/significant other in the forum threads. While I store my pics on Imgur, and I also show how to collect the image link from there, you should be aware that the parts in the forum will be similar regardless of where you store your pics. If you're not using imgur, find out how you copy the link from the source of your choice and scroll down to the big RED text in this post. Then go from there.
That said - here goes:
I have set myself up with an Imgur account. In my market, it's free of charge up to 1000 pics (I think) and that'll keep me covered for some time at least.
I use the Imgur app on my IPhone, having downloaded it from the AppStore. It's pretty self explanatory how to set it up and operate it.
Having opened the app, this is how it looks on my phone
(https://i.imgur.com/EKm1aqo.png)
I then go to my own account, pressing the icon in the bottom right corner. This is what my account looks like.
Now, I choose the album in which I've stored the pic I want. I this case, the Valiant K.1 tanker album. Having clicked on it, I can now see the pics stored in that album.
This time, I want to show the belly pic, no 3 from the top. Hence, I click on it, and it comes up.
Now I want the link to this pic. That's available if you click on the "share" icon below the pic, and that'll open a menu from the bottom of the screen, like this
(https://i.imgur.com/BmIvHHK.png)
Now, click on "copy link" - and your pic link is now saved!
Now go back to the forum. Open a "new thread" or "reply" dialogue box, and write what you want.
From here, these instructions apply to any image source, be it imgur or anything else
Choose where to place the image, set your text marker there, and click the "img" button, situated top left in the bottom field just above the smileys. It looks like a Mona Lisa painting, if you look at it closely.
Now you should get an image prompt sequence inserted in your text, looking like this:
Place your marker between the two bracketed
""img" and "/img", (where it is on the pic above here) and see if you get a black popup menu saying "select : mark all : paste" if not, just tap again on the screen, trying to place the marker as just described once again. Now you should get the black box.
I often have to zoom in a bit to hit properly, but then my fingers are a bit big at the ends. Or I can't aim properly.. ;)
Select "paste" and heureka - the link is now pasted into your text, between the brackets. Like this:
Now, depending on the size of the pic you've just linked, you might want to limit how large it'll appear here in the forum. That's not difficult, but it requires some typing.
Let's say I want to limit to a width of 600 pixels, which usually is a good size for somewhat older screens. Then I go in the first "img"-bracket, and just write "width =600" there, like this:
Be careful to have a space between "img" and "width" but none after "width".
Now choose "preview" below the text insert field (next to the "post button" and have a look. If you think the pic is too small, increase the value, to 800 or something, and if you think it's too big, decrease it.
That's it, really.
I will allow some comments to this, enabling you all to tip me off on improvements, but when I feel we're good, my suggestion would be to lock this thread and pin it somewhere we easily can find it. For future reference. I'll contact admin about that once we get there.
OK?
Onwards then!
Thanks and this will work on a tablet, as I don't have a PC or laptop?
This should work on any device. Added to that, I would assume a tablet works very much like a phone, which is what I've used.
Thanks for this, it's always helpful to get as manty "how to's" as possible, especially when it comes to posting pictures

Pellson did a really good job with his description of how to post an image.
You are manageing to get most of it correct.
The part you are haveing difficulty with is where to put the information about the picture.
THe picture below shows you how it should look, only the first part is wraper onto the following line because it is too big to be on the same line.

Part of the problem is showing you what it should look like by typeing it here because the web page thinks I am telling it to do something when I, or anyone else is only trying to show something.

I apologise McColm.
After playing around with links and attempting ways of getting this to work I can't manage to get the picture to show here.
I can get a link to a picture to show which when clicked on opens a page showing the picture.
More playing with this to see how Pellson does it.

Hi Gondor, I don't think it's a problem with the process as Pellson has described - it's exactly what I do and the images display without any problems. I'm wondering if McColm has set some parameters in Imgur that prevent displaying the images here (as we can see the images in Imgur without any problems). Question to McColm: have you created an account in Imgur? And if so did you configure any privacy settings?
I tried copying one of Pellson's posts into a reply so I could Preview the image. It didn't work :banghead: :banghead:
No idea why at all. I'm stumped.
All I can sudgest for McColm to do is to post the links to his pictures, one per line is probably best, and we can then click on the links to see the results or untill someone better than I manages to work oout why we can't see the images.
Gondor

Magnificent! <_<
There's a small difference between the linked BB code and the normal BB code above which is, when you click on the image. The linked BB code redirects you to imgur when you click on said image, while the simple BB code, which says message boards and forums, the image opens in the forum's image viewer and you don't leave the forum to view said image. I guess it's the only difference so i guess it's only a matter of personal choice.

That works. It doesn't result in an embedded photo but I can see it if I click on the link. Nice 'dyne.
I've had similar problems, Dizzys method doesn't work for me and Gondor's only works on a computer as my smartphone makes me us the app which doesn't have the BBCode links. When I've searched previously, The Internet was of the opinion that it was basically impossible with my model of Android smartphone. However, I think I've found a way that might work.
Took some experimenting, but it seems to work. It's a modification of Dizzys method that works for my system and might be adaptable to others. Let me know if you can see them and if the sizes are okay.
Select the image you want as normal:

This next step is crucial: Click on the image again and brings up the image itself, rather than a webpage showing your image:

Click Copy URL (couldn't screenshot it due to the idiosyncrasies of my system) and paste it into the reply:

Highlight the text:

Might sound a bit of a daft question, but how are you looking at this site McColm? I know you have a tablet and a phone, but what on them do you use to look at the site?
Gondor
When I click on your link, and click 'share' 'Copy URL' I get the code you get:
https://imgur.com/a/f7CBXAJ
When I click on the image in that link, then click 'share' 'Copy URL' I get a different code with a .jpg extension:
https://i.imgur.com/ufi97PZ.jpeg
If I copy it into the reply, highlight it and then press the IMG icon above I can embed it:
I click on the app, go to my page mccolmsteven89
Click on the photo, click on share, click on url top left icon. Close it and then click on the Whatifmodellers.com website, monoalisa icon, get inbetween the [] [] gap delete the [ ] cross my fingers and wait for the
https://imgur.com/ to appear.
Then check my replies and go back to see if it's worked or not.
It might be easier to highlight the text first then press the monolisa icon.
I had to play around a bit until I found a code that gave the .jpg extension. It might be worth clicking different options to see if that comes up.

I honestly think it should be as easy via your tablet as it is for me via my phone, hence no need for a pc. The trick is to fist copy the pic link in the imgur app, then paste it between the "img" markers.
You can get the correct image link on a PC by simply right clicking on the image and then clicking on COPY IMAGE LINK on the menu that pops up. However I don't know how this method translates onto tablets/smartphones since I have neither.
So for this picture: https://imgur.com/a/f7CBXAJ (Victor/Nimrod AEW hybrid), you get: https://i.imgur.com/ufi97PZ.jpeg
Put that code between IMG tags like this: [img]https://i.imgur.com/ufi97PZ.jpeg[/img]
Set the width like this: [img width=600]https://i.imgur.com/ufi97PZ.jpeg[/img]
and it embeds like this:

You're using the address of the webpage not the address of the image itself.
The address of the webpage is: https://imgur.com/a/fPfzvoz That won't work for embedding the image here.
The address of the image is: https://i.imgur.com/hX1OflA.jpeg which you get by right clicking on the image then clicking on the COPY IMAGE LINK option.
Put the image address inside the IMG tags and you get this:
The code for that looks like this:
[img]https://i.imgur.com/hX1OflA.jpeg[/img]
(If you copy it don't copy the CODE tags: they're what make it show you the code instead of the picture.)
I don't have a mouse connected to my tablet , it's a standard keyboard.
If you check the topic Airfix you can see my reply. The code is correct but there's still no picture when I do it.
I tried twice to get into the website but it wouldn't load any of my pictures just my user name and the web address. A black screen.
' keep on knocking, but they won't let me in', as the lyrics to the song goes or 'green door, what's the secret your hiding?'
On a tablet or a smartphone press and hold on the image on the website - you should get a menu with various options including "open image in new tab". If you select that, then go to the new tab with just the image in your browser, you can then press on the url (the address of the page) in your browser (in the address bar at the top of the page) making sure the whole address is selected, press and click "copy". That should be the correct address, which you then paste into the img tags here.
Actually, I've just tried doing that on an iPhone and you end up with a few parameters at the end of the url - you have to delete everything after the ? (question mark) in the url... Also the image format is webp which I suspect is because I'm using Chrome as a browser - Chrome converts jpeg and png format images to webp because it's more compressed without losing quality. But webp isn't compatible with many other systems - for example you need a plugin in Photoshop to open webp images... so that might be a reason for getting a blank space instead of an image on this forum. You *could* just type .jpg at the end of the url to replace .webp but I think that getting a cheap pc would save you a whole load of hassle...
I've just tried it in Safari as well and the image format is .webp as well
So for a url like this **https://i.imgur.com/DaTtnAQ_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium**
You have to delete the question mark and everything after it, change .webp to .jpg and paste the modified url here. It's a complete pain in the arse on a telephone. It may be easier on a tablet, but the interfaces are very similar (touch based rather than cursor based) so I doubt it...

Yes I am using the app.
Then I guess, but it's only a guess, that you're copying the pic link one step too soon.
First open the user
Then open the album
Then select the pic.
Then tap/clic the white "share"-button below the pic
Then select "copy link" in popup menu.

You simply do the same in the destination folder, your current and finished builds, as you did here or where ever they were posted. There is nothing stopping you posting the same picture in every thread on the forum in theory. Just follow the same procedure for each picture every time and it should work. Though I sudgest you consentrate on posting to one thread at a time to save yourself from getting confused like the rest of us.

You could copy the original pics to the new folders.
On the original folder and post, hit the 'Modify' tab at the top and then look for the pic itself in the text string, it'll start {img} but with square brackets. Then highlight the whole string and hit Ctrl-C. Cancel the 'Modify' and go to your new folder and go to where you want the copied image to be, and hit 'Ctrl-V. Lo and behold the image string will re-appear. ;D
From a Moderators point of view I've no problem with the same image being in a couple of places, indeed at times it's the clearest way to go , but more than that could/would get a tad confusing
