When the Ilyushin Il-2 was used to repel the German invaders in 1941 in quickly turned out that the accuracy of the attacks was a big problem. A large part of the attacks missed their target. Several proposals were made to improve this.

One of the design changes proposed was to move the engine to the middle of the aircraft and the cockpit to the front. This afforded better visibility to the pilot. This variant was called Il-2цд or Il-2 TSD for центральный двигатель or "middle motor".

A series of prototypes was built at the end of 1941, and they were tested at the front in the winter of 1941/1942. It turned out however that this design change did not markedly improve the accuracy of the attacks. A total of 48 of the Il-2 TSD were built but no further production was undertaken.

Model: Accurate Miniatures, 1/48
After the war, when more powerful engines became available, Ilyushin proposed the Il-20 which featured the engine at the front with the cockpit positioned over the engine. This also was not produced in any numbers.

Comrade TomZ You have saved the fatherland with this wonderfull design!
Actaually Tom when I first saw it my mind went to the Il-20.
Well done, I rather like it.
That's a great whiff! You could say the Soviets got the idea from Lend Lease P-39s.
 Wow! And that would have made a good pair with protection by Bell P-39 "Aerokobra"!

I think that's the first time I've ever seen a COE (cab over engine) plane...
I like it

One of my all time favorites could be classed as a COE, the Transavia PL-12 Airtruk
I like it
Terrific build Tom, the "simple" camouflage scheme seems to add to it
Oh, that's cool, esp. with the Il-20 reference.
If NARSES2 had not already nominated it for the Whiffies, I'd gladly have done so. ;D

Of course the Soviets did not use the P-39 Aerokobra but the Gorbunov Go-3 Кобра as an escort.

Looks like a Blackburnski to me.
I knew it reminded me of something but couldn't place it, for some reason Fred saying Blackburnski made it click, a Short Seamew.

Google Translate gives the English wording for us to pronounce in Russian:
tsentral'nyy dvigatel' ;)

I was scratching my head as well, and yes that was it. I'd forgotten the Seamew.
Both the Seamew and the Gannet count as COE types really.
I have found a double Ilyushin with a middle motor + nose motor: <_<
