I personally think that the Northrop YF-23 Black Widow II is a contender for the replacement of the Eurofighter Typhoon. There's studies into a naval variant with different engines, canards and strengthened landing gear with folding wings.
I tried adding the V/STOL from a 1/72 F-35B to a 1/72 F-23 model and it works, my intention was to build a twin seat version but I found that the lifting fan from the F-35B filled the gap. I haven't gotten around to finishing this.
The Japanese are also interested in using the F-23 as a donor for their next fighter rather than starting from a clean sheet of paper.
The Yak-43 concept based on the Yak-141/41 Freestyle prototype is another idea worth considering.

I have destroyed many kits before I was admitted to hospital this year with the ' I wonder if that will fit? best get my razor saw and find out ' style of thinking.
