Title: Quarantine GB
Post by: Spey_Phantom on March 14, 2020, 08:37:57 AM
i just had an idea, it came to me as a joke, but i will try to be serious for a moment.
with the recent Corona outbreak, many people are stuck at home.
as modellers, we are prepared for the apocalypse so i propose the "Quarantine Group Build"  ;D

the goal, build as many models as you can, any subject, from start to finish, and whever has the most and best models by the time the quarantine measures are lifted wins. its kinda like the 1 week GB, but over an extended period of time.

We're doing it already, it's called the 'In the Navy GB'.  ;D ;)

I'm sure there will be a tad more building going on. I was hoping to do more restoration work on my motorcycles, but I seem to be spending most of my time fending off the disease with a steady diet of alcohol  ;D

That sounds good to me.

I have proposed to Mrs z that should we be required to self quarantine at home for two weeks due to exposure to a proven Death Flu victim we should spend one of those days drinking.

I've laid in a couple of extra bottles of Burgandy, just in case  ;D

The likelihood of quarantine is getting closer.  The teacher of a child of one of the ladies at work is rumoured to have it.

To start with.   ;)  At our age the ratio of drinking to recovery days is running at about 1:3.  Out of practice I guess.  It's been years since I drank a slab (24 bottles or cans) in a day.  I used to do it annually to prove to myself that I still could.

At work, we are all getting so fed up with the constant fear mongering, stupid rumours, lies, and distortions about The Death Flu that between the hours of 10 to 11 and 3 to 4 all talk of it is banned.

So, you're back home from the frozen west? I hope all is well with you. We're all good here. Outside of walking up to the mailbox Friday and out to the shed yesterday, I haven't left the house. I've barely got me arse out of this chair. I did manage to lay in some extra liquid refreshments, just in case.

I like some of the thinking in this thread.  I myself have enough rum stashed to fill a bath but it's all really expensive stuff that I don't want to open!

I encourage this!  Although I cannot participate as my supplies and kits are packed away in anticipation of an eventual move, I am modeling vicariously through you lot.  So get to building!

I'd love a Quarantine GB, but the rules (Rule 6 possibly???) would stress that alcohol MUST be consumed.

Unfortunately I won't be taking part as someone has to guard the empty office buildings,  my overtime just went up to a 72 hour week.

I was notified today that I will not be working in April or May.   Thankfully the paycheck is guaranteed for April and most likely May too.  Now is when having a massive model stash will pay off!!!  I might get my GF to stack the stash randomly in the spare room and I can treat it like a trip to the LHS.

I'll definitely be in for any GB/Theme Build that comes out if this idea!

We've already got "In the Navy" running.  Plenty of scope to join in with it.
If anyone has something they want to build but can't think of a way to get it to fit the rules then just ask.  I'm sure we'll be able to come up with a back story that'll allow it.

If you don't open it it's just a bottle on a shelf!
Share with friends, just a couple at a time.......

Well, seeing as the junior gardener here at Chateau Nick has been dismissed for cutting through the hedge strimmer cable  :-X  I'll have to clear the desk and join in!

Not supposed to be drinking heavily but I'm sure a tot of rum tonight won't hurt too much.

Never mind, Nick, cables are easily repairable (if the DIY store is still open).   I'm sure that the household management will find other tasks for you. Much sympathy from me!!

I spent Wednesday afternoon stacking just over a ton of logs in the shed...........thank the Lord for Rheged minor helping..........and this morning emptying a vast compost bin and  distributing the contents on the vegetable garden. At present, I'm slumped in a collapsed state building up my energies for pruning raspberry canes later.  Since Madame Rheged was a research botanist, she does the fancy stuff in the garden, I'm just the JCB end of horticulture.

.... and this morning emptying a vast compost bin and distributing the contents on the garden.

The Head Gardener (Mum) has this minute suggested doing just that tomorrow! She has said she can't do it as she's 'an old lady who can't do very much and is in self-isolation'. She's very good at deckchair gardening though

I think my dismissal was temporary  ;D
We've decided to pace out all the garden jobs over the next month. Gives us a variety of things to do each day. I could repair the trimmer cable but it's been cut through twice now and I don't want to tempt fate. It's rusty and very noisy too.
