Title: Hobbycraft sale 2019
Post by: Nick on November 25, 2019, 05:11:58 AM
Hobbycraft are holding a Black Friday Sale on selected model kits. I noticed last night that most Revell and some Airfix kits are reduced by 50%.
Saw the Revell Lancaster, Hunters, Twin Otter, 1/32 Spitfire and the Star Wars kits included.

I came home with a pair of Star Wars Snowspeeders. Just £3 each!

I know, at £10 each they are excellent value at the moment. It begs those age old questions....."How many Hunter kits does a modeller need?" or "How many Hunter kits is enough?" ! :o

All I'll say is that you'd better get there before Mike McEvoy  ;) He'd bought at least a half dozen at Telford on the Friday afternoon before the show had even opened  ;D

There's two he won't get as I picked up the only two Hunters in the Gloucester Hobbycraft today, and a V-2 rocket as well.  ;D

I didn't even know Revell did one of the latter, but it looks pretty good.

Special Armour re-box.  It's better than the Condor kit I've got, which isn't bad itself but I've been coveting a few more.  At £6 I'm sure I could stretch, hope they've got some in store as they're sold out online.

Ahah, thanks for that.

The Gloucester store has a double pile of them that reached to above my knees!

If you really need one I could whizz back and get a few........

Thanks Kit, I should be able to make the Hull store tomorrow, if they don't have any I'll bear you in mind.

Just come back from the Stockport store. Bit disappointing really, 'cos most of the things they actually had were the same things that I stocked up on last year and havn't touched, so I was much more restrained. The things I really wanted were the small modern armour: the T-55M and the M-109G, but they hadn't got either.

Got:

1/144th Space Shuttle
1/72nd V-2
1/241st Millenium Falcon

Looked at but decided against:

1/72nd Bandai X-Wing for £15
1/600th USS Enterprise for £17.50

Did have a nice chat with the Polish(?) girl behind the counter who was thrilled to see a Millenium Falcon kit at an affordable price even if it is tiny, so I think they'll be selling another one shortly...

We look to be well on the way for a V-2 GB here next year.  ;D

Funnily enough I was thinking something very similar.

I wouldn't have thought there's much you could get wrong with a V2 ? I know what you mean however  ;)

Maybe I should make the hours trip on 3 buses to my nearest branch and get one ? Then I could build it as the one that we were always told as kids had made our favourite bombsite playground  ;D

Picked two V-2's up from the Hull shop, thanks for standing by Kit.

Also got an X-Wing and a Millennium Falcon for the kids.

The Revell kit has much better detail, the Condor kit is a bit chunky and basic.  That being said, they're both almost identical in shape and proportions, although there are slight differences in the size of the launch platforms and the Revell kit has an extra tow trailer.

I've got a selection of V-2s in a variety of scales, with scaleorama in mind for some of them, so as long as the rules are loose enough, I can take part just by picking something off my project list.

So you have an actual written or typed list (such as Chris would have us believe exists) or do you have a jumbled, scrambled, semi fictional, random access mess like that which exists in my head?

Oh the latter. I did once start making a projects list and even posted it on here, but I had to stop at 200 entries because I was getting scared... :o

100's of lists, and it's only a minor exaggeration exist in the Edwards household. Be they long term and on the computer or short term and on a piece of (recycled) paper. Indeed I wrote out another couple this morning and that's a fairly average day  ;)

Mind you I suppose some are really aide memoire ?  ;) ;)

Hobbycraft Hereford was a total let-down this morning.  Nothing at all worthwhile except for one single 1:144 Tornado, which will be a Fleet Air Arm aircraft in due course.  A few 1:24 car kits (Trabant, '58 Corvette, VW Samba Bus) and a Tie-fighter in a broken box (lots of Sellotape) that looked as though the contents had been scattered and swept up from the floor.  I'll be in Worcester tomorrow, let's see if their selection is any better!

Hull hadn't quite been strip mined, a lot of kits had gone but there where a fair few left so you might be lucky.  I think was fortunate to get the V-2's as I found one of them tossed behind some other kits on the wrong shelf.

Well that was disappointing: Hobbycraft Altrincham had a very poor selection, and I don't think that's just due to the sale, since the actual area of the shop devoted to kits is much smaller than in the Stockport one.

Nothing at all of any interest in Worcester  hobbycraft  either.

Went back to the Derby store today

All the the Hunters and Twotters had gone, and the shelf area had been pretty much cleared of Revell aircraft kits

Did pick up the following from the aisle display
1/32 Corsair
1/48 Mosquito, Camel and SE.5a
1/72 Typhoon (with BoB camoflage markings)
and, since everybody been talking about them....
1/72 V2 rocket ....... did the UK ever test any? I've a thought to do my in captured RAF markings ....a la captured Luftwaffe aircraft?

Yes, they did. Operation Backfire  :-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Backfire_(World_War_II) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Backfire_(World_War_II))  is how it happened.

thanks for that, that was a new one on me!  ;D

interesting that they are in what appears to be early 'black and white' prototype markings, rather than camouflaged like late war operational versions? (at least according to my slim knowledge gleaned from the Revell kit's painting guide!?)

and they need RAF roundels on them!  ;)

Perhaps a yellow P as well to conform with Air Ministry instructions  ;)
