Before I receive the Boeing 390 kit I have ordered today ( https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=46654.0 ), there may be several weeks. So, waiting, I plan to decrease my stock of spare parts into an airplane or an object or an animal/machine compound like dear Ericr showed us ( https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=37003.0 ). A long time ago, I built a Grumman Sparecat ( https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php/topic,46388.0.html ), now this is the Republic Thunderspare.
With 8 parts from the Unicraft kit of Boulton-Paul P.79b ( https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=46551.0 ), 4 pylon sets from Zvezda kits, 1 fin (or wing tip) of unknown source,
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kristofmeunier.fr%2FIMG_3223_thunderspare.jpg&hash=14659bed807ab1f16d7ff1434e7f97028f0a66a3)
The "thing" is taking shape, with its 4 half wings (without lift profile, ahem) and a push-pull layout. Maybe I will add 4 double legs like an insect, I will see.
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kristofmeunier.fr%2FIMG_3224_thunderspare.jpg&hash=5e2bc2bd84cd3d9fbf9314978d79507a7fa2df4d)
Correction: insects have 3 pairs of legs, spiders have 4 (in Real World, but what-if?)
Bone surgery (with plastic sprues) by Pr Frankenplein (myself), to build the pod that will be above the 8 legs:
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kristofmeunier.fr%2FIMG_3225_thunderspare.jpg&hash=6eb5e163cac33667dcd5438bc2bbb0d579198a47)
Around bones, there are muscles (putty):
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kristofmeunier.fr%2FIMG_3229_thunderspare.jpg&hash=147c47ff5864d7df01127ab2827d7ad220c047af)
I have almost no putty remaining :-\ , I have ordered 2 more tubes today. ;)
No more putty at all... (waiting for the ordered tubes):
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kristofmeunier.fr%2FIMG_3233_thunderspare.jpg&hash=b0fd2e537e75b3da1aa3a49200176a4c38c85de9)
I bought a Heller P-51D kit, including 2 canopies (slightly different), so one comes here:
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kristofmeunier.fr%2FIMG_3272-thunderspare.jpg&hash=903eff9a13665ac5d2e4fedb78ba2009947b32de)
Sanding, then starting to add putty again... PSR is not fun :-\
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kristofmeunier.fr%2FIMG_3323_thunderspare.jpg&hash=f1e63705e498841c46c0f957cf9e2154f182f67a)
Sometimes, but only sometimes PSR can be strangely relaxing if you get into a rhythm with it. But mostly it's a p.i.a.
Thanks!
uh... p.i.a.? according to https://www.allacronyms.com/P.I.A. the meaning could be:
Peril insured against
Pakistan International Airline
Post Industrial Age
? ;D

He probably means Pain In the Derriare (A$$)
Thanks. Now I understand it cannot be said, staying polite/gentlemen... ;) ;D (but I approve this meaning for PSR, quite often) :-\ <_<
I think Chris meant to type "P.I.T.A.", lol

"P.I.T.A.", lol
Any relation to "what a pity!"?
(A.Solzhenitsyn book about the Soviet gulag?)

Yes and no. We quite often drop the "the" in this part of the world.
Teach me to simply assume things about language - apologies.

Haven't read any Solzhenitsyn for a very, very long time and I wasn't aware of that one. Cheers Tophe
Sanding again, putty again...

With a mask on my face I do not breath easily and it is not comfortable... :-\

That's a lot of dust Tophe. Glad you are sensible and wear a mask
Yes thanks.
And PSR again... :-\ :

Next sanding, and the result is almost acceptable: (I may go on perhaps)
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kristofmeunier.fr%2FIMG_3331_thunderspare.jpg&hash=f6ffdef780b0a3218c9c2c0532fe96461f66417e)
I run out of sly blue paint finishing my TF-51D model recently, so I am using the paint inside the P-51D Heller kit, and the "Matt Trainer Yellow" seems good for a weird thing with kinda wings (not an airplane exactly)... I am starting the paint step:
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kristofmeunier.fr%2FIMG_3332_thunderspare.jpg&hash=15e4c24805e4162fedac6cd39414b3b9bb60f53d)
Close to completion. I will let the legs and "wings" black, paint the canopy black (except yellow frames).

The skorpio-like thing/animal/machine got legs and eyes: ;D
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kristofmeunier.fr%2FIMG_3335_thunderspare.jpg&hash=8bb5860767a7b94de7bfa63d6f190d4fcf3f4b1c)
;D
Thanks ericr, you know: even if I don't pay a ericr-Copyright, this model is very inspired by your collection "airplanes/animal/machines/tools mixes", so inspiring!
https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=37003.0
Thanks again!
The walking banana ? ;D ;D
Thanks for this idea! ;D
But the "model" was not finished and turns more to a machine with propellers now on:
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kristofmeunier.fr%2FIMG_3336_thunderspare.jpg&hash=cdb85a9a8997df0197e7126b6486880c7324d72e)
With bigger spinners and kinda wings, the "thing" is finished! ;)

other angle, more aggressive? (does it bite? or spit fire?)
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kristofmeunier.fr%2FIMG_3344_thunderspare.jpg&hash=7bd22d033b44e622f8f1909a69f62a83af341646)

And from 4 angles:

I am glad this is finishing my Unicraft Boulton-Paul P.79b that I made as a glider, the engines coming here.
And for all the inspiration in these things not exactly airplanes, I thank dear ericr once more! Thanks Master ;D

This leaves me without words so,
very creative use of those Zvevda stands !
I also have quite a few of them ... might be getting inspiration here ;D
Wonderfull. I'm going to see these in my dreams now...

Yes, quite the same could have been done without gathering spare parts from many kits: ;D
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kristofmeunier.fr%2FP-51_persp_A_da.jpg&hash=1457eca9ca95c714852198fd6b639ab5ef37c48a)

And not necessarily on a P-51 basis:
And the number of stands per result could be 2 or 6 instead of 4... ;D
Hmmm..... Eight legs gives it that spidery look. With wing it's even more strange! Don't tell my wife you made flying spider, she will freak out!
