Title: Post war Vallejo RAF colours
Post by: chrisonord on February 11, 2019, 04:41:12 AM
I am having a continuous battle with the Tamiya paint on my Avro Archer build, as the grey keeps changing shade. I have been using the dark grey of theirs but I want to change to Vallejo as their bronze green, has given much better results than the Tamiya RAF green. Has anyone used Vallejo, particularly their pre mixed airbrush paint to do an RAF aircraft in the 1960's grey and green over light grey camouflage. I need to get this thing finished, and the paint is holding me back.
Cheers,
Chris.

I've used Vallejo for most of my builds over the past year.  Geberally really hapoy with them, but sometimes their colors end up being just "close enough".

I have to admit that Vallejo paints are the best I have used for both brush and airbrush use, they are replacing all the Tamiya and lifecolour paints I have.
Chris.

I like Hataka too, and I have a few Ammo by MiG, but the vast majority of mine now are Vallejo.  Their metallics are especially good.

I love my Vallejo acrylics.
However, some may find them a bit fragile and accuracy of colour isn't always what it could be.

I have some of Vallejo's basic colours and they are fine. However my main go to now are the Natalia sets which are excellent

Shame that there isn't really any downward pressure on price as a consequence.

Every now and then I consider getting back into modelling ( have a few kits still stashed ) and then I realise it'd cost me £30 for a few base-colour paints and I put the idea on hold.

Agree on the color accuracy.  I have USN Gull Gray from Vallejo and Hataka and to me the Hataka is much closer.  As far as fragility, I don't really have a problem with them, but I sometimes mix in a few drops of Future/Kleer which seems to help a bit.
