Here is the new project of mine, 1/72, from my Mustang drawings topic http://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php/topic,4461.1935.html

I consider building this in plastic, 1/72 Heller, if I get a Mustang kit for Christmas. P-51D looking like Bv P.208.

EDIT: this evening, my sister asked me what I want for Christmas, so this will be!
And I have received the kit yesterday:
I thanked my sister, and it was in November, much too early to open the parcel, but... we are now in December, and my son (9y.o.) doesn't believe anymore that Santa Claus does exist... so here is the content, yes.
Among the 52 parts of the kit, here are the 14 I am going to use (+ 2 pieces of sprues):

I refuse weapons and no need of undercarriage ;)
Gluing has started, with the help of my 9 y.o. son:
As the A is for asymmetric, I plan to increase asymmetry (say: to counter torque of the single propeller).
Instead of a single fin on starboard, I will use as fin on starboard a part that was a tailplane, and what was the fin part (truncated) will become a little tailplane on the port side:

Today I am a little ill and I do not go in the workbench room, cold, maybe tomorrow.
I have just played with the computer to make a top view:

Today, the butcher came and... (oh Lord...):
Classified, the parts make the P-51P-208A appear, almost:

You must have a very good razor saw Tophe. ;D
Thanks.
And now, I build the new nose with putty, layer by layer:
After the N-th putty layer dries, tomorrow this will be ready to sand into a new nose:
Well that's either ice-cream for two or the latest Dr Who monster ??? ;D
I have made the first sanding there, but one side is awful:

ice-cream for two
Yes, my tongue is aching... ;D
So... putty again (ice-cream one more time!):

Go for the gusto, bud!!!! I like your design!
Thanks!
The new sanding is done, and the construction goes on:

Going on: sanding, cutting, putty again...

Sanding was the end of hardwork, now building is fast...

Are the forward/backward wings intentional or just artistic expression? :o
1/ You are right, the port wing is inverted (front/rear upside/down)
2/ This was not intentional but a mistake of mine
3/ I will not change it: for me, this is funny/crazy, very what-if
4/ You and me have not the same principles for what-if spirit, you are rather realist while I am a complete dreamer/mad-one...
PS. Do you know how the supercritical profile was invented? An almost normal profile was tested in wind-tunnel and brought unexpectedly wonderful results, then doing it again provide no good results, and again: bad, so the wind-tunnel technician was questioned "what happened the fist time??" and he shyly admitted "I made a mistake, sorry, mounting upside down", this was checked and confirmed, and optimized into a new great standard! wrong/crazy may be good...

I didn't know that about the supercritical wing. :) Thanks! Also - and forgive me for this - it took me a while to warm up to your style of building. However, now that I'm used to how you do things, I look forward to seeing 'what you're doing this time' because it always very different and very original - and there's far too little of that in this world.
Also, you've given me some ideas - shaken my mind loose from my normal ruts, so to speak - and that is a priceless gift.
Thank-you!
Thanks a lot for these nice words...
Just remember that the serious way is sane, mine is crazy...
Now, for finishing this model: I have not yet glued the booms but I think I will start the painting before, it will be fragile after gluing.

First layer of sky-blue paint on the underside:

"Seriously", the P-51P-208 is taking shape now...

Yes, yes, this was/is/would-be a Mustang, just a little special... :-\ ;D

a very nice story indeed ! ;D ;D ;D
Agree on all counts.

That just improves its asymmetry, doesn't it? ;D

I fear this is not improvement but directing to a crash... in real life, but on my shelf there is no danger. ;D
When I touched the model, the booms broke down, felling apart from the wing... :-\
I must confess I made a mistake: :-\ I cut the sprues too short to become booms (I should not have taken the P-51 sprues but from some other kit) : so not enough distance between propeller and tailplanes, too fragile wing-booms attachment. I tried to reinforce this attachment (see below) but this is very ugly, I hope it will be invisible from the normal angles of view, standing... :-\

Finished! <_<

It seems I failed to make it "like Real"... :-\ I fear I am a... what-ifer, shame on me...

Perhaps you didn't read the instructions properly? ;D ;D ;) ;)

Yes, the instructions were written in an awful language called French... :-\ My nationality is French but it is so complicated a language: you are right, that may explain why I misunderstood a little thing... ;) ;D
Hell, I like it!!!! Very good! Excellent re-purposing of sprue rod there, I might add.
Very nice!
That's a neat little piece of machinery Tophe ! Cheers
Good job Tophe.
Thanks a lot, my friends!
I will tell the psychiatrist I have friends anyway (I mean: outside the psychiatric asylum... ;) )
