Title: Lego Reskyukyu
Post by: Tophe on November 25, 2017, 10:02:02 AM
With my 8 year son Jacky we visited a toy store (while my wife was in a cloth store). I offered him the Lego 60164 box of twin-boom flying boat, sea rescue, with a kind of contract between us: he will build it "perfectly" then photograph it, then I will transform it for fun, then he will chose his favourite way forever...
see  the boxart at https://www.rueducommerce.fr/produit/lego-60164-l-hydravion-de-secours-en-mer-28974144
Here is what he built, OOB:

Then I made a canard pusher derivative, Rescuecue or Reskyukyu:

Seen fron the other side:

Title: Re: Lego Reskyukyu

And I tried an asymmetric derivative, Reskyakya:
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv670%2FTophe2712%2Frescuecue_006_zpsi0heawco.jpg&hash=a7a90e78b317e6f56f4cb8326bb140649cd37a3d)
Then he restored it back to what he had built himself...

My son Jacky has changed his mind and wanted to invent new shapes like Daddy. He produced 11 new kinds, I will show you tomorrow...

Cool!  Brings back memories... I used to take completely random LEGO bits from various kits and made airliners and bombers and such.

;D HA!!   They've all been disassembled many many years ago!  That said, I do believe I still have the bulk of my LEGO and could probably pretty closely replicate some of the stuff I built back then. I might build one!

As far as that goes, I was contemplating a few months back getting into buying LEGO kits again. Especially trying to get some of the stuff I had back as a child. One that stood out for me was an airplane from the Town line:

Jacky's airplanes are great, especially #2.  ;D ;D

Thanks!
This morning, my son played again...
Jacky #13: another push-pull, with booms on the fuselage
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv670%2FTophe2712%2FJ13_002_zpse84yyjg4.jpg&hash=717315f19b049ca6bb4e2c018237221d30988db7)

Jacky #13 again: the underside, to prove this is a flying boat (with the kid's hands to show the "scale")
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv670%2FTophe2712%2FJ13b_003_zps8f2jajv0.jpg&hash=61b114c3900ba5573254ff9c9733f0e506da1eb4)

Jacky #14: similar but with rear engines, push-pull for fun (and no intermeshing propellers)
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv670%2FTophe2712%2FJ14_005_zpsgeei4dsk.jpg&hash=d3c62b907397503513bc40a88d0a6163a40d0506)

Jacky #15: I said this one is impossible to fly but he said this is a boat, that has to go in every direction, all right...
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv670%2FTophe2712%2FJ15_006_zpsevfi2b8b.jpg&hash=0bb513eb4cece00a42db7d670cfc8744e1f85a8e)

Jacky #16: push-pull and drag, no booms alas...
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv670%2FTophe2712%2FJ16_007_zpsidelvysn.jpg&hash=3216fcddeb2bb3de289f036c9b675e405ffbad18)

(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv670%2FTophe2712%2FJ18_011_zpsfqfc2i68.jpg&hash=7fc2f34a841468375704ed11bb926e80f8a04746)

Jacky #19: this flying wing seaplane is showing its rear door
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv670%2FTophe2712%2FJ19_012_zpsovqia3zu.jpg&hash=f79c25bfb256601a61dc94b7dc1da11013afc98d)

Jacky #20: very asymmetric canard again
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv670%2FTophe2712%2FJ20_013_zps3s8rvfxg.jpg&hash=fbc8a648b6103e0c6c5302db767abaa000c04bab)

Jacky #22: the same with staggered wings for improved balance...
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv670%2FTophe2712%2FJ22_017_zpspcfc4pjn.jpg&hash=c721c9b919658d6c9deae9f1b976c715ec97d651)

Dear Chronic1, my (filipino) son Jacky was jealous of your 4-engined twin-boom plane, so he considers mixing this new (2-engined) twin-boom seaplane with his former (2-engined) twin-boom landplane:
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv670%2FTophe2712%2FJ22b_018_zpsxqpbf4l7.jpg&hash=4bbddb8172c8f7f9d013ba03fbcac69155a9dddf)

Here is the first result, using Daddy's way (asymmetric for fun)
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv670%2FTophe2712%2FJ23_020_zpsvacleibb.jpg&hash=fcb4526fa056370e16a6d8d65a00e6d9af6583be)

And the second mix:
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv670%2FTophe2712%2FJ24_021_zpspfqy7d4n.jpg&hash=00b32413f79b22fe114838ae8a6ddf24a229aa0e)

Like Tim "The Toolman" Taylor says, you can never have enough POWER!  ;D

Good lookin' birds there and cute kid!  ;D

I'll probably dig my bucket of known LEGO out today and see if I by some amazing happenstance have all the stuff still to make that 4 engine medic, or if not, something close to it. Either way I'm buyin' one off eBay.  ;D

Nice ones - you're both obviously having lots of fun. Lego is a great toy.

By way of inspiration, I think I'm right in saying that there's a configuration you've not tried yet, and it's a relatively sane one too. See if one or the other of you can figure out what it is....

We have not tried "tail-sitter" and "floatplane" but this is not easy for a flying boat.
Biplane may be another way, yes, maybe ;)
No? ANother one?

Nope, there's another much simpler one than that.

There are simpler ways with a single engine, but my son doesn't like "not using all the parts" (I insisted to make the picture "flying wing" before he transformed it in something else, "finished" according to him).

I had the 4 engine one . Used to use it as a light bomber / mine layer.

Swing door on the back allowed bomb deployment
