Title: New Lightning-Mustang seaplanes
Post by: Tophe on October 29, 2017, 10:33:02 AM
My sister has seen the film "Sully", about an airliner crash in the Hudson river, and she asked me if there are compounds aircraft/hovercraft (for safety), and would I draw some if not done yet.
I answered this morning that I will draw this (in my P-38 or P-51/82 favorite families), but not immediately, as I wait for the GB start here.
And... for safe landing in a river, an amphibious plane would make it easily, and a Canadair CL-215 for instance can carry 19 passengers, this is an airliner too...

My sister's name being Juliette, here are the Juju-38 (on ground/water then in flight) and amphibious Juju-38A:

Mustang seaplanes (Seastangs) are not forgotten:

Coming soon: a Twin-Seastang of course, as link between Seastangs and Lightnings.

Now that would take SOME building in plastic, but it'd certainly look amazing!

Thanks!

But, you know, aviation is changing... Seaplanes are no more what they used to be: the new generation (prepared for the 2020s) is like toys of the 2010s: electrical quadricopters:

A Mustang flying boat with a single hull:

You could try using the BAC Strikemaster  as a donor kit.

Thanks!

And the 3-engined Twin-Boat-Stang was asymmetric, a little:

Thanks!

The first Boat-stang (without bubble canopy) had a twin-cockpit derivative, with sponsoons:

If you look back on page 1 Chris there is a picture with the canopy balanced in place.
Yes, a Mustang does not need at all a canopy where usual, thanks!

And there was a Lightning jet family finishing with a flying-boat version, twin-hull:

Thanks! (What a honour! even if this would remain just a project)

Now another kind of seaplane: the COMP-38 was a compound, with a landplane above a marine support, jettisonable:
