I've started on my 3D interpretation of a blend of these 2D images created by apophenia in Profiles and Pixels over on BtS.

I have done quite well over the last few nights getting it this far (the last 2 have mostly been PSR).
One point to note: the Marder turret has a slightly largerturret ring diameter than the ASLAV (& the fitment is totally different between the 2 kits being used).
One thing I'm struggling with is whether to stay with the 20mm Rheinmetal cannon or up-gun to the 25mm Bushmaster?
Here are a few shots of how she's going;

If this is going to be Aussie then Bushmaster wins simply because the name is more appropriate.
Good work so far.
Wow, this looks absolutely awesome! :o
...Considering the armament, upgunning would definately make sense, especially with all those appliqué armor around for IFV's nowadays... it might be a bit exaggerated, but I'm thinking of a Bofors 40mm right now... ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wewaCdSW4yc (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wewaCdSW4yc)
<_<
Bushmaster for commonality with the ASLAV.
I'll be watching this one!
Nice ! The first two pics are x's for me but the other ones work. Great stuff so far, and I vote that either cannon would look good !

Thanks, guys!
Build has slowed a little bit but I intend to get stuck into it tonight & I hope to have it ready for paint by Tuesday (my RDO & when I intend to put 1st paint on the HMBLT).

How much ASLAV did you cut away?

How much ASLAV did you cut away?
About a quarter. Unfortunately I don't have another to show in comparison.
OK, Build going a bit slower than I'd like, may have to delay painting until Wednesday.
Here she is as of now.

As you can see, I've gone for the 25mm Bushmaster & have, therefore, modified the gun housing to indicate the larger weapon.
I've put a spent-casing chute ejecting from the rear of the housing, so the spent casings don't eject over the commander's hatch, but I'm not really sure about its practicality. Would the casings clog up & jam the mechanism? Would I be better off with a port at the bottom of the housing?
Apart from the bits still to glue on I, also, have to cut out a circle in the right side for the spare wheel. I'll be gluing the wheels on with white glue (or similar) until I can get a decent set of resin LAV wheels which include a spare.
Thanks for watching & all of your input!
Guy.

As you can see, I had a brain-fart & decided to modify the commander's cupola to something a little more modern. Not perfect, by any means, but I like it.
Now, all I need to find is a FGM-148 Javelin ATGM in 1/35th to fit on the side of the turret as a modern replacement for the Milan.
(Fire-&-forget being more suited to Sabre recce than holding the target in your sights before high-tailing it out of the heat!)
Paint certainly brings it all together very nicely
That is brilliant I do like this kind of armour, and your creations are excellent. I will be watching this now.
Chris.
Oh my God, this is awesome! Wow. :o
Thanks, gents!
Paint should happen on Thursday, with completion of Friday (I hope), along with the HMBLT.
Actually, this is my favourite part of the process; when the primer coat has tied everything together & before I screw up the final paint scheme.
I was thinking of doing this (and I might still) but it won't look anywhere as nice as yours, dude!
It's got a real modern V100 Commando/LAV150 look to it.

Thanks, Scooterman!
Rather amusing, the LAV-150 reference, as my earlier plan (before I saw apophenia's 4x4 version) was to fit a LAV-150 90mm Cockerill turret to the 8x8 ASLAV hull. ;D
However, I'm liking the 4x4 version more, so I may (that's a BIG "may") buy another & build it as a 4x4 with the Cockerill. ;)

I know exactly what you mean.
Love it. Love the shap and the additions you've done. Does really look modern. Can't wait to see more !
So, after 8 1/2 days with our land-line &, hence, internet down, I can report progress on the Armoured Vehicle Front!
Paint has happened!
ASLAV based scheme using Tamiya XF-78 Wooden Deck Tan, LifeColor UA 091 Dark Green (as the light green - go figure! :-\ ) & Tamiya XF-58 Olive Green (as the dark green). Not the actual Army colours but, then, they're going to be Marines vehicles when finished, so a bit of variation is OK in my universe.
I have been tossing around the idea of adding a 4th colour (Tamiya XF-52 Flat Earth) as another point of / obvious expression of difference to RW vehicles, but I'm beginning to feel it will look too crowded if I do that.
Anyway, photo's are still uploading to PhotoBucket - quite a few of them, actually. So, when that's done I'll chuck in a photo's-only post for your perusal.

Oh they are looking good
Thanks, Chris!
This & the HMBLT are progressing - only very slowly as the (Mouse (House) Armour) decals/transfers I'm using are a right PitA  with bits of backing paper sticking to them along every cut line & even behind some of the letters & numbers. :banghead:
The kit decals are much easier to use but, well, most of the writing is complete gibberish.
Just received a Trumpy BRDM-2 (Late) in the mail because this was the vehicle that started the whole 4x4 ASLAV idea in the first place, so I had to have one.
The 4x4 ASLAV (from now on ASLAV 1A2) was to be a direct Western equivalent to the Soviet/Russian design - an amphibious, 4x4, light reconnaissance vehicle.
Quick check with the upper hull against the ASLAV 1A2 shows the BRDM to be the slightly larger of the 2 vehicles.
I'll probably build the BRDM-2 as a Ukrainian vehicle & put it in a dio with the ASLAV 1A2, in some form of joint operation.

OK, decals are on this. too! <_<
As with the HMBLT they fought me all the way but they'll do.
Beauty. Glad you reminded us that it's a 4x4 completely missed that in the other tread pics !

OK, this one is (with the exception of the commander, who can come later) done!
Photo's tomorrow.
Clearing the decks tonight for the "In the Navy" GB builds.
The HMBLT will have to wait a little longer.
We apologise for the unexpected delay. There has been a minor technical issue which we are working to rectify as soon as possible.

Tomas the Tanker went AWOL for a bit, then I found him hiding out in a cupboard;

Obviously not perfect but all constructive criticism & other comments welcome, as usual.
(Note: The wheels are those supplied with the kit, which I intend to swap out with resin at a later date - when I can get them from my dealer.)
Guy
Oh......wow......that is great work.............i love the cam scheme, the kit stowage, the main gun. Great touch with the two (assuming they are) water bottles tucked away.....cracking kit.
Thank you, Ao1!
You got it, 2 bottles of water added for that personal touch to the resin storage.
Noice.
Tyres look OK to me. Is it weighted ones you are after?
Thats something car modellers rarely bother with.

Thanks, Fred!
And, yep, that's what I'm talking after. Armour tends to be a bit heavier than cars & the bulged tyres, although not obvious, do make a difference to the appearance. ;)
Gorgeous. Love everything about it, the busy bustle, the gun, the shape, the colours....wow. I want one ! Great job.
Superb work
Thank you, gentlemen. Greatly appreciated!
Looks good. A little too "clean" for an operational machine though. Needs more dust!
It's the little things that make a model. The ones you don't necessarily consciously notice.
The six red bow shackles for example...

An artifact of the Testors Dull-Kote I sprayed her with. Before that you could barely see the markings for the Tamiya "Flat Earth" I'd sprayed in (I think) a rather effective driving dust pattern.

They're the things I think about when building a vehicle, the personal touches - like the shackles & the 2 water bottles in the stowage.
:tank:  from here as well, looks great, and once mentioned yup the shackles and the water bottles really add to the picture
Thanks, Steel Penguin!
Came out a treat love the stance of it
Oops!
Thanks, Austanker!
OK, Tomas has been replaced by the proper commander.
Here are a few pic's:

Done whilst working on my FSV521AS Warrior (which is almost finished! :D ).
It's just occurred to me what your cutting mat background reminds me of.
"Commander Wombat to Bridge, the holodeck has packed up again. Has Wesley been fiddling with it?".
Cool model!
Thanks, gents!
Great job on this one ! Love the crew figure as well. Defo an idea worth saving right there !
Thanks, Cap!
This was a "Finished for Now" build but it has just received the missing piece.
Photo's (hopefully) tomorrow evening. ;)
That's looking very good! Cries for a desert base/diorama.
The more I look at this the more I like the commander figure in particular
As promised!

For those who are interested, I wanted to keep the anti-tank missile capability of the Marder turret but I didn't want to use Milan, so here we have my interpretation of a mount for a Javelin ATGM.
Cheers!
Brilliant.
Don't know about "brilliant", Fred. ;)
There are more joints (all with locking levers) on this than you can poke a stick at for all the axes of tilt - even the commander's wire-cutter has a lever that he can pull up to allow the post to be folded forward so he can use the Javelin system as it is meant to be, as a shoulder fired weapon. :o
Very nice
Chris
Great build mate

I use the word as the 16 year old I am at heart would. Rather than in it's correct sense.
I do like it a lot. Weathering is realistic but restrained. I wish i'd built it.
Thank you all, gents! Very much appreciated.
