After the Turkish invasion of 1974 the island of Cyprus was divided in two. Today the two sides are meeting at what remains of Nicosia Airport to settle things and create a unified Federal Republic of Cyprus.
In this BBC report there's a fascinating photo of a Cyprus Airways Trident that has sat there for over 4 decades, 40 years that have not been kind.

That Trident was en route to Nicosia from Heathrow while the Turkish invasion was happening, and the Captain flew over the invasion fleet while reporting over the radio.
He asked where was a better place to land and the idiots at the airport insisted he land there! :o

I suspect dioramas have already been started.
There was also a car dealer in the separation zone - read a report that the Toyota cars on stock had been sitting there sinmce the early 70ies, catching dust (and one or two bricks falling down from the roof...).

That is a neat shot....you can see an old hangar in the background as well. I wonder what other treasures lurk there ?
