Title: A400M
Post by: Captain Canada on October 17, 2015, 12:56:45 PM
First pic ! all of the major assembly done. The two greens I've settled on are on the test piece from the underside.

Ya it's just going to be a 'paints kit different' kind of whif. It should still look pretty cool tho

I would have thought it was obvious considering the tools and tins of paint next to it.

Got the first coat of green on today, whilst watching 'Sleepy Hollow' that old Johnny Depp film. Kinda cheesy but not bad. the film, not the A400

I have 2 of the 1/72 kits, probably both destined to be Whifs, 1/144 are too small for me  ;D

RCAF or RAF. Spec Ops type. Might go the RAF route, things like this just look better in those roundels.....

Better than the maple leaf??? Impossible (the Canadian one is the most beautiful roundel in the World - with the Kangaroo one of Australia maybe)

This is true Tophe, but somehow it just doesn't look right on certain aircraft. I haven't tried them on this one yet....just speaking from experience.

She is pretty much done, just have to get off my lazy duff and finish it. Decals, clear coat etc. I have the day off, and once the coffee kicks in I was hoping to get something done, and this one is a good candidate !

Since this is going to be a special ops bird, I was looking up pics of RAF Hercs in that role and ended up coming upon the upgraded self defense suite on these birds. I hacked up some leftover bits from a Revell 1/72 Sea King. A few more bits and bobs to stick on, and I'll add underwing refueling pods and probably somat else outboard of that. What to call it ? CK.2 ?

Could switch the engines over and see if anyone notices it in a future build.

For the upcoming Logistics GB I was going to do a jet powered A400, using all the leftover bits from two A400 boxes. In 1/72 of course  ;)  I was planning a stretched fuselage for it too.

Mine is still coming along. Just trying to do at least 1 thing on it per day. She's getting there ! Added the refuelling pods and the boom on the roof. Lots of little decals are making it look pretty good !

I broke the main gear off so I could modify it. If you've seen some of my other posts I like to play with my toys. The gear will be removable once I'm finished. Nothing worse than trying to get from Ascension to the Falklands wit this gear down 😜F0174D03-9058-4387-8BBA-85E31107A198.jpeg

If the main gear's anything like that on the 1/72 scale version, you have my sincere condolences!

I had to throw most of it away on my 'Snoopy 2' A400M and scratchbuild each gear leg from styrene rod and sheet!

Post by: Captain Canada on October 21, 2022, 06:06:52 PM
It was a little fiddly, but the fix will be easy. I plan on gluing a square tube in, and then a plate that all three wheel sets will sit on. Stay tuned.

The Revell 1/72 C-160 has the same problem as the A400M in many respects. Although a twin engine A400M would make a great whiff.

The boxes and new tube landing gear. The boxes will be glued in place and painted fuselage colour, then I can slide the tubes in and out. E138A371-42C2-4B59-AE1E-66EBBB84EE99.jpeg

GOOD thinking!

I should update my 1/72 A400M to a similar spec. A great idea  Cap'n.

Yet another example of the inverted sideways thought processes that make Whiffworld what it is.    Well done, Captain Canada!!

The little 'hat' I made for the front gear. It will be a decent representation of the gear doors once painted.  I had to make the oleo a little longer than I wanted to have the wheels sit on the ground. 9A251288-791C-4A2E-AB80-B522FB2A9DCE.jpeg
