Title: De Havilland's Emergency Bomber
Post by: Leading Observer on September 14, 2015, 11:59:06 AM
With the fear of the imminent Axis invasion, thoughts turned to converting all available civilian types of aircraft into wepons of some kind. The De Havilland factory at Hatfield was given the task of converting the DH.88 Comet into a warplane. The easy option was fit external bomb racks to enable the aircraft to carry a very small bomb load.

Yup some 20 lb Coppers left over from WWI ?

Or perhaps as a beach gas sprayer ? Loads of types were suggested and a couple (inc. the Lizzie) were tested and equipped ready for use. In the end Churchill said no, but who knows what would have happened if the German's had attempted a landing

It's an awful little kit this - I remember being very disappointed in the mould when Dad bought one, after much badgering, for me as a kid - so good luck to you! I like the idea of an emergency bomber, this will be fun.
