I've always liked the Sikorsky S-67 Blackhawk. The only model I know of is the Angirand resin kit, which I don't have so I'm going to make my own version.
The Blackhawk was a big helicopter as it was planned to have a small transport cabin, Hind style. I've read that this was one of the reasons that the US Army were lukewarm to it. So my idea is that Sikorsky redesigned it after the crash and offered a smaller version for the Advanced Attack Helicopter competition instead of the S-71 that was based on the S-70 Black Hawk.

The Pucara will provide the base, with helicopter bits coming from various kits. I'm working this out on the fly, I'm not entirely sure quite how this is going to go together yet!

This is where I am so far. It'll loose it's tail soon and I may try and create wheel wells in the sponsons if I have time, otherwise she'll be in flight. The Airfix/Special Hobby kit isn't bad, but fairly typical for short run and needs a bit of persuasion for everything to fit together hunky-dory.

Fascinating project! Can't wait to see where you're taking this!
Is it going to be a tail-dragger like the actual S-67? In that case, I'd go with the Cougar bits. That big fin might lend itself to containing the tail wheel Rooivalk-style.
Now that's original! Be interesting to see how this one turns out!

Cheers Moritz! Yes, it'll be a tail dragger, the Cougar fin might be a little small, I might have to improvise.

Thanks Harold! I'm trying to follow the S-67 look as much possible, but there might be differences, such as the engine layout. I confess I'm not a natural kitbasher and parts I've selected often don't seem to work out. I had a 'crisis' with the tail last night, I was going to us the Cougar's, but it was too short as I cut it, any shorter and I'd have had to fill a substantial section. I'm trying to for 'plug and play' parts so I can save as much time as possible but it's not working out quite as I hoped!
Lat nights progress, main parts together, the tail removed with the hole filled with Milliput.

That's a lot of kits for a 1WGB ! Great stuff !
I might not use them all, saying that I might use others too!
I'm shaking with anticipation - I LOVE the S-67 and anyone building it gets a thumbs-up in my book. I like the way this is shaping up, I'm very excited to see more!
Cheers Zac! I'd like to think someone will do a shortrun kit someday, fingers crossed.
Quite a lot done but nothing much to show for it. Wheel wells are cut out, stuff like the gun fairings filled and I've got the engine pods together. I'll post pics soon when it looks less like the above pic. I've got a lot still to do and the deadline isn't as far off as I'd like!
Wow, great idea- and a way to clear out the stash!
Great bash!
Cheers! It's mostly detail bits I'm using so they'll end up in the spares box. But I'm actually considering making an emergency purchase of it's namesake, the Black Hawk! I was going to use the rotor from the Puma, but I'm missing a blade. :banghead: I had it not long ago, but I can't find it anywhere. The tail is also proving problematic and the right Black Hawk kit should provide these as well as stores, which I was going to use from the Cobra but Hellfires would be useful.
Just in case any one is wondering, this is the bird I'm trying to emulate, sorta:

Good call on the Pucara fuselage. I would not have thought of that one!

I would have thought the 5 blade Sea King rotor would suit it, probably too big though.
It's what the real thing did use Flyer, at least the SH-3 system. Probably Simon has found the Pucara fuselage is on the small size, the S-67 was a very big helicopter

Cheers! It came to me a little while ago and I did wonder if I could get it to work. The fuselages are similar shapes, and the break down of the Pucara kit even lends itself to the undercarriage pods.

Yes that's right, the S-67's fuselage was about 30% longer than the Pucara's. A five blade might work, but as it's similar in size to the S-70 I thought that would work.
Less work done than I hoped tonight, got the engine pods on top of the fuselage but it took a lot more chopping than I thought it would. I'm already wondering if I've bitten off more than I can chew.....

If you don't get this finished in time Simon, I can send you a spare blade or two but there's no way to get them to you this week I'm afraid. I bought a ""mystery"' box of kits at a recent LMS closing down sale, and it had a Airfix Puma in the bunch of kits I got. And as I already have another in the stash, this one could be broken down for spare parts.
Just take the Sea King blades and trim them off a bit.
That is gorgeous. Love the look of the engine housing.....

Thanks guys!
Cheers for the offer Robert, but I actually went out and bought a Tamiya SH-60B Sea Hawk kit yesterday! The idea was to get it together as quick as possible so I didn't want to trim the blades. As it turns out I think I might have to anyway, even with the Sea Hawks blades. It also gave me a few other parts that were useful.

Ah, unfortunately the engine housing isn't the same on my build! I've gone with side pods nicked from a Mangusta model. They look a little small, but I'm hoping to add some kind of IR suppressors to bulk them out a bit.
I'm certain I won't finish this on time. I was expecting it to be a 'plug and play' build but I'm doing a lot more scratch-bashing than I thought. I've been working into the wee-hours and to be honest I'm just knackered! I might just continue with this one or put a super-quick build together before the deadline.
You might not finish in time, but it's been a good excuse to get a thought into a build ! And you might as well bash an easy build together in the meantime....might actually help get this one done quicker.
That's very true. I've had a distinct lack of mojo for well over a year, I've started plenty an finished and nothing. This build has reminded me that I can just problem solve a build as I go.
I'll have a look at what I've got for a blitz build....
Careful, when you force yourself to build something it can turn into work! We all have plenty of that to do anyway.
That's inspiring and makes me wonder if I could bash Hawker Hawk trainer (very close shape to the Pucara if you delete the air intakes!) with some heli components for a fast attcka helicopter...? Earmarked for the long idea/project list!
The One Week builds really can get you out of the modelling doldrums so glad it has Mossie
Must admit if I find my motivation lacking I grab a nice simple kit from the stash and build it out of the box for a nice quick build. Gives me the motivation for more messy ones

Yes, that's kind of what happened. I'm enjoying it, but I was just worn out and that's not what it's about.

Just a thought that struck me. Maybe mash up a Hawk with parts from the wacky Italeri Mi-28? But that will be another story and not materialize on short notice...
Sure plenti o folks will want to see

I'm one!!! Go for it, GB be damned!
We will be nagging you to finish this regardless of the group build.
Ha ha! Okay guys, you've got my arm up my back, I'll get onto it as soon as the 1WGB is over.
Right now, I've got an OOB Hawker Sea Hawk on the go, I'll open a thread shortly.
LOL....I love it ! It's a syndrome for us whiffers.....too many ideas !
Hit an unexpected snag, picked up my jar of Mr Surfacer 500 and it had dried up. :-\ Not a problem, I have a tube of Humbrol Model Filler. Also dried up. :banghead: Okay, I was passing close to Hobbycraft so I'll pick up a another tube of Model Filler. Sold out. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Right now I've added some cellulose thinners to the Mr Surfacer in a attempt to soften it up a bit. It's sort of working, but I won't even finish the Sea Hawk in time now.
Never mind, the main reason I got involved in this GB was to try and re-kindle my enthusiasm. I think it's worked, I'll let you know if I get either of the builds finished.

Sometimes that's all we need, and it brings a smile to my face to know it worked!
I look forward to seeing your Lightblackhawk continue!
Auto parts store! Bondo spot filler! Go now!
Be nice to see this one finished: it's a great project.

Does that mean you'll only build it next week instead of this one? ;D
