Title: isopropyl alcohol (IPA)
Post by: NARSES2 on February 10, 2015, 07:48:13 AM
Now I've been thinking of trying this as a cleaner preparatory to painting. But I'll be b'd if I can find where to buy it.

Now I can get it online but would rather go to a shop. Maplin's (Hi de Hi ) do the aerosol but I want the liquid.

So does anyone know where you can get this in the UK ? Boots, hardware stores ?

Ta in advance

Chris

It's often sold in Chemist's as surgical spirit Chris, so Boots should have it, Superdrug etc.

I just go to the drugstore up the street and pick up a bottle of either 70% or 99%. No problems.

I get mine from "superdrug"  Usually order a couple of ltr. plastic bottles (takes about two -three days as its not a stock item). Ive had a 5ltr container as well.

Thins my Tamiya acrylics a treat, wouldnt be without it.

You could try Superdrug in Huddersfield they may keep in.

What's easily available in one country can be almost impossible to get in others though.

Even across counties Kit.

In my brothers local I've seen loads of young girls drinking Snakebite made from 9% Strength cider and Kronenburg. Ask for that in Croydon and at best you'll get a NO, probably be asked to leave. The police don't like it being served at all.  :drink:

You need to check the bottle, sometimes it's ethanol, but usually IPA.

FYI for all Kiwis here; I managed to get 4 litres of IPA for around $25 at Resene Automotive.

Don't ask at a regular Resene, you'll get a blank look at best; it has to be a store that carries the Automotive paints.

FWIW, I HTH
