Title: Another 1/350 USS Wasp hospital ship
Post by: ChrisV on November 02, 2014, 10:37:29 AM
I joined the forum after receiving the Revell 1/350 USS Wasp as a gift which I always intended to convert to a modern hospital ship. Seadude has already started his build and has definite ideas as to what he wants.  I'm still not certain but I'm probably going to build a UN Hospital ship complete with red crosses and green stripes. However in my world the UN is a proactive peacekeeping force and it's hospital ships are used in combat zones that require the ship to carry defensive CIWS and defensive short range anti aircraft/anti missile weapons.

Between operational deployments the UN hospital ship can be used to transport UN military vehicles from one peacekeeping mission area to another.
So my UN hospital ship will also carry on deck a small number of UN combat vehicles (Those contained in the kit)

I'm going to convert mine to r/c. To do so I'll remove the well deck and aircraft hanger to make room for the gear required.
I may even ditch the wasp superstructure and replace it with the superstructure and hangar from a 1/350 type 23 frigate. The hanger would be used as the triage reception area.

Interesting idea. I haven't seen many ships this size with RC.

Welcome Chris.  Putting my evil warlord hat on for a few minutes, having a hospital ship transporting combat vehicles makes it a justifiable target for my torpedo armed Cessna 406 and Islander gunship so the defensive weapons might be a good idea.

Interesting idea, indeed. I'll look forward to hearing and seeing more progress about it.

My hospital ship project is a bit stalled right now due to being busy at work and the holidays coming up. :(  I'm trying to squeeze in whatever time I can to work on it, but it's not much.

Great idea. I like the idea of changing the superstructure, especially having a hangar on the deck.

Look forward to seeing some pics !

That line is getting very blurred these days. Terrorist and their ilk don't care about "rules of warfare". I say all the defensive weapons you think you need are just fine. This is going to be fun to watch come together.

Hi guys, I have not forgotten the build. In fact I've started it so to speak.
I'm concentrating on sourcing the correct r/c and running gear first to put in the hull before the rest of the build. I already have two 40" r/c what if patrol boats but this build however is the first full 'plastic kit' I've built for over twenty years.
It's primarily a r/c build first and a 'what if' second. However despite the lack of my modelling skills I've seen the standards to aim for on the forum so I'm going to give it a go.
I'll post photos of the r/c installation etc as soon as it's finished. Bye for now.

Chris, any new progress on this? Haven't heard from you in awhile. Where you at?
