What's that kit that OGL is gawping at in piccie #1?
Looks like a good show anyway.
Its a Hasagawa Mitsubishi G4M1 Betty. :)
Heres my photos (http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y22/martinhiggs/Crewe%20model%20show%202012/) of our stand. And a few we saw on the Airfix tribute forum display next door to ours.
nice set OGL, lovely and inspiring
OGL, when I check your Photobucket links they always seize up after 18-20 pics and it stops responding completely. :banghead:
Any ideas why that should be?
Nice to see you both - good day out!
Good pics Martin!
I thoroughly enjoyed it...!!! Quite a bit of interest in the models displayed....I think I'm gonna have to get me an Angel interceptor or two having seen the ones on display.....can honestly I've never built one.......H
Nice display lads, well done

no idea Kit, any one else having trouble viewing photobucket links?
I viewed them from my phone with no probs......
Got a good JMN kill too. OGL was away from the stand when a bloke came up tutting and chunnering about "silly" and "wrong", but then he saw something that pushed him over the edge:
Him: "Now that's just so, OH! they'd never do that! What kind of fool thought that up?!!!"
Me: "which one?"
Him: "That, that thing there!", pointing to Martin's swing-wing Navy Lightning.
Me: "BAC."
Him: "What?"
Me: "BAC - it's a real project. BAC drew it up in the early 1960s when they were trying to persuade the RN to buy British rather than the Phantom."
I then waited patiently while he spluttered his way around to backing out of his previous position....
Him (eventually): "It would have been nightmare to land on a carrier!"
Me: "Probably - didn't say it was a good idea, just a real one...." (shrug)

Was that the bloke that was going on about burst tyres n fuel consumption.....??

No, different one... ;D
One guy came along and carefully took about ten pictures of my single-seat Magister from every conceivable angle, but said absolutely nothing.....

Yeap that happens and you get used to it, a good one when they start showing interest is to offer to move the model into a better position for them to photo as that can start a conversation either that or they act like a startled rabbit caught in the headlights stop dead still and scatter as quickly as possible.

So what was the story with that one then???
Slightly off topic here but I get nose bleeds as soon as I hit the M25 going either East or West to go 'upNorff'.
Are there any shows of a similar ilk that you reprobates gentlemen may attend in the south (and by south I mean north across the stream from France) ?
I'd like to join the party and see some of my rough attempts on a table somewhere.
Bungle (gets car sick after 5 miles so much that Zippy won't allow me to sit up front)

That one was quite harmless. He was trying to explain what he thought the idea behind the naval lightning was to his kid........Ie trying to explain what a what if is.
He was quite surprised to find it was a real project. But quite friendly.

I suppose the most southerly is MK which has just been on. A few of us go to Southern Expo as punters and then we make the trip to Yate in the summer, out near Bristol. There arn't that many shows in the South, big shame :-\
Has the SIG ever done the Yeovilton Show?
It's pretty good, very Cosford like in feel as you're exhibiting amongst some very rare aeroplanes. While chatting to a stand viewer once I realised I was leaning against the leading edge of the ONLY Fairy Albacore left in the entire world and moved sharply away!

Basically its a scheduling issue, previously the the show has clashed with Huddersfield, being on the Saturday whilst Huddersfield was on the Sunday, although this year they finally appeared to get it a weekend earlier. You also need to consider that martin does the Bolton show in mid Jan, Milton keynes, Huddersfield, Crewe and then Peterborough between Jan and the start of March. Thats alot of travel and adding in Yeovilton would fill that weekend between MK & Hudds would in effect book up every weekend in the Feb-Mar period.
Add to that the cost and distance of Yeovilton as the other shows are bascially in easy reach via the road network from his Northamptonshire location, where as Somerset is a cross country slog along a variety of A-roads. Doing that on top of all the others can make it an expensive month without counting the stash increaases that tend to happen at such events.
As for Southern Shows, it was local members that got the SIG involved in the Northern shows, i was a member of Bolton, Wooksta was Newcastle, Falcon was Huddersfield, Martin is Coventry, TsrJoe was the Scottish Nationals and Glasgow. Thats how we got involved in those shows and then as we become more known we would get invites to new shows or be accepted when trying to get a stand at Yate or Peterborough.
The SIG has *always* done Tyneside as I remember talking to Ian Hartup (who started the SIG) about some Luftwaffe fighter at the Guildhall in Newcastle in 1993. It's been a firm fixture at Tyneside ever since it began.

About 13.5 stone at the moment, but working on it.......
It didn't seem to be right using such a rare device as something to lean on, so I stopped.

There are those who would hold that a leaning post was probably the best use for an Albacore.....
Anyway, Hitler didn't manage to break it, so what chance have you got?

As I've spent the greater portion of my like working on machines that were designed to do exactly that, ie breaking things, I should think I've a pretty good chance actually........ ;D
