Now that the Airfix kit is out again, ideas that spring to mind are:
Vichy France
Japanese with floats
Spanish Republican
Portuguese Maritime Reconn
USAAC in 1941, yellow wings, green fuselage.
Civil...transport
USAF or El Salvador....gunship with a solid nose, wingtip tanks and underwing stores.
Any other ideas?
Canadian water bomber ;) ;D
What about a "wide body" version, capable of carrying a 4000lb cookie?
Terry, I think there's a thread on the Hampden already, lots of ideas there
EDIT: Here it is

They'd need to be really NARROW passengers! ;D
Wasn't there a Biggles one somewhere?
Damn n blast......as if there ain't enough to do.....I like the idea of an up engined Flak suppressor with loadsa guns n small bombs as on the attatched thread.......
Parasol, and/or 'cranked-w' wing, and fixed gear.
The Hampden was a bit of a damp squib, not really powerful or large enough. So how about an upgrade, in a simillar fashion to what Martin did to the Maryland to produce the Boston? Would more or less brings it up to the standard of the Wimpey.
Stretch the fuselage but shorten the tail boom, keeping a similar overall length. New engines of course, probably Hercules and/or Merlins. Turret in nose & upper fuselage, keeping the gun position in the lower fuse. Larger tail to compensate for the extra fuse area & power. A width plug would be handy for more room for the crew & larger bombs, but not essential.
