Title: The Nimrod MK2 with a rotordome from a E-3 0r E-2
Post by: McColm on July 17, 2010, 03:18:41 AM
Hi there,
I've been away from this site for almost a year.
I read some where that the a last ditch atempt was to fit the Nimrod with a E-2 or type rotordome and have air-to-air refueling pods carried under the wings.
Has anyone got any drawings or CGI or even built this design?

Many thanks,
Steven :banghead:

Thanks,
It's the airbourne early warning AMTI radar picture/drawing.
Just need a nimrod and hawkeye kit. Nearly completed the Br1150 atlantic AEW. Might swap the wings of a P-3 with the Br1150.

The proposal was to fit an E-2 radome & avionics into a Nimrod airframe as the Nimrod fuselage was not big enough to accomodate the E-3 avionics.

Did they ever consider lengthening the fuselage?

No, because the idea was to use existing Nimrod MR.1 airframes.

Wasn't there a version that had the Hawkeye radome with the tail radome from the ARGUS system?  I think I saw one recentley.

One of the schemes for an AEW3 reoplacement with the E-2 rotodome envisaged the Searchwater radar removed and the original Comet nose exposed.

There was a drawing at the time of the competition between the P-3 AEW, E-2 and E-3
