The paint job is not as good as it could be, because i have my airbrush MIA :banghead:
more photos in a few days
Looks good from here  Love the sleekness of the Mirage, shown off well in the last picture
What a horrific model! :o Kudos to you for persevering
If there is one bonus about that kit, it comes with the Matra JL-100 rocket pod/fuel tank combo. I don't know of any other kit that has them, although there has been a resin set released in the last year.
Well done in perservering, looking forward to see how it turns out!
Nice save of what appears to be a real dog of a kit.
HI guys!
Thanks for the support.
After these last few days spent in Germany, because of my younger sister getting cancer, and needing support, i didn't advance much in the kit.
returned yesterday and made a little bit on the bird or should i say dog ;D

Looking Good,Luis   Small Q:any plans to put a Shark's Mouth on your Mirage III? i think a Plane like that would look good with one, but You're the Builder, You make the call.Stay Cool & Keep up the Great Work   :cheers:Dan
Nice use of the masking tape when using filler . . . Thought I was the only one that did that! ;)
Good evening to all!

I'm using masking tape since i learned the hard way that to much putty allways leads to missing details after sanding the stuff
the work today was a disaster :banghead:.
I used automotive clear varnish, and the result was good , but after a few hours, i decided to start whit the decals.
the varnish was allready dry, so i started by cutting the decals i needed and sorting them, so far so good. The revell shark's mouth was a bit big :rolleyes:and because of that it started wrinkling, so i put micro set. The disaster opened after that, i left a full bottle of micro set opened , and spilled all over the decals :banghead:, when i was turning the model around.
i managed to save most of the decals . After some hard work i decided to use micro sol, and them the cherry on top of the cake, the Portuguese roundels and flag started to wrinkle and the decals are shrinking :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Tomorrow i will replace the damaged decals.

That's one SERIOUS sharksmouth there Luis! ;D
I tried to build that kit way back when it was half of the dogfight double and gave up after hours of fiddling to make it fit properly. You've done a great job, nice one.
for a horrible looking kit, you did a nice job making it look good
and thanks for the warning on the airfix kit, guess if i ever need another mirage III/5 kit, i'd look for the Heller or old Revell box
Thanks guys ;D
It was the best i could do after all the setbacks i had.
I had considered making another Mirage before i opened the box, but now i think i have to look for another brand
So it is finished and here are the photos:

Nice finished result!
Looking good. Love to see aircraft in Portugese sevice
That is very nice Luis, you certainly know how to make a silk purse from a sows ear
excellent job
Chris
Hard to believe anyone could do such a good job with that kit! Well done Luis, great looking scheme.

Nice one Luis!
I've got three of those kits, but strictly for spares.....
The wierd missile on the centreline is supposed to be a Matra R510, a very early AAM of canard aeroplane configuration.
Mossie: the only other JL100 pod I know of is on the centreline of the Matchbox Jaguar, which also features long intake splitter plates and four seriously inaccurate AS.30s.
I'd long forgotten about the Matchbox kit Harold, I kind of half remembered building one when I was a youngster, but rummaging into the depths of my memory, it was the Airfix kit. A JL-100 on the centreline would make for quite a interesting load out, I don't think I've ever seen pics of an aircraft armed with a single rocket pod.
I know you know about this set, but the Odds & Ordance do a lovely looking set of JL-100's for the Lightning:

A very nice model, indeed!

Great result from an old kit - well done!
Superb result from a terrible kit
Makes you wonder why Portugal didn't use Mirage IIIs in real life...

I thought that missile was the Matra R.511? Whatever it is, is this the only kit that includes this missile?
Great looking model Luis.
well done for perserving with an old, old model.
the end result is very respectable.
thanks for the comments guys!

I have an answer to your comment nev
Portuguese airforce allmost used them in the war in Africa.
in the late 60´s PoAf was looking for interceptors in the market and the contenders were, Mirage III, F-4c, SAAB J-35, MirageV
and a there was also the possibility of the Jaguar and Mirage F1
the last 2 were discarded in the beginning because they were only prototypes at the time
the J-35 was difficult to service in the field
the F-4c was to expensive, so after concluding that PoAf could only buy 25 aircraft, was considered insufficient for the number of aircraft required
in the beginning of the 70´s, PoAf received 2 Mirage III for evaluation, ( they still rest in an Hangar in Portugal), and despite being the favourite aircraft, we made a deal with Dassault for 79 Mirage V.
Finance was approved By the South African Government, and the delivery date was supposed to begin in 1975, the problem was that the cease fire happened just after the revolution in 1974, and we never took the delivery of those aircraft along with 80 FIAT G-91 from germany.
I can search for more details if you like
Cool, I never knew all that 8)
I didn't know that Portugal almost had one of my favourite jets, gotta go read some more about my own country's air force.
Great job on that kit, my friend!
Nice one - looks very natural.
What a coincidence...
This weekend I am reading the magazine 'Aviation Classics 17: Dassault Mirage III/5' with the very interesting article ' The Customer that never was' by Jose Mantos.
