Howdy y'all ;D Long time no post. I am now back at the bench and have several projects going. I figured I would start off with one that will horrify and piss off everyone equally
So I am going to combine (read bastardize) a Spitfire and a Mustang and just to make it worse I will give it a T-tail
Since I am doing a Malcolm hood I figured I should put at least some effort into the cockpit :banghead:

I will use the Spits horizontals at the top of the Stang tail

Widthwise the two fuselages will go together nicely .Top to bottom I will probably have to add a couple of nose guns to furr the Spit nose up to fit the Mustang contours. Oh no :o y'all know how I hate adding guns
To give credit where credit is due ;Thanks to Scooterman and Roger the Cabin boy for providing me with these models.
So that your (entirely appropriate) anger can fly in the right direction neither of these fine folk are in any way responsible for this design.
But Scoot did giggle evilly while helping me hold the parts up to each other to check fit.
Good to see you found your way back to the asylum. Looking forward to seeing this WIP. BTW, the pilot sure has a funny look on his mug :^)
Welcome back, (although I`m a newbie so perhaps I should be saying hi instead ), and looking forward to seeing this with a T tail...
Yay - the slinger of tools is back! Nice to see you and nice project!
So that's an AIRFIX Spit you've got there? Thought you said "never again" after the Buccaneer....
So this is where you got in, good to have you back Tex!
And what a start, alienating die-hard Brits & Yanks in one go, good move!
I've built a 1/48 Airfix (Mk.Vc) & to be fair on it it's not a bad kit. The most annoying bit of it is the wing/fuselage joint, but since it looks like you're going to make life difficult for yourself there anyway, it doesn't matter much!
hehehehehehehehe. This is going to be killer.
And nice to see ya back dude!
Thanks to all y'all  I am very glad to be back.
Jeffry I think that pilot is just confused over what he is going to be flying
tc, thanks nic to meet ya  you'll get used to my particular brand o madness
Weaver I just wanted the Griffin engine and the 5 blade prop .
Mossie the wings on the Spit are nicely detailed and come with 2 different sets o guns   but they do look like they will fit the Stang better than the kit they came on
Brad thanks again for the kits . Excellent choices
That pilot has a 1000 yard stare. :o Usually considered poor form in figure painting cliques, but mastering the manic stare is very much welcomed in these circles... ;D
Good to see you back and bashing plastic. This promises to be another great creation.
Ed
Thanks y'all.
Phil I wear glasses because I'm nearsighted  Now I notice that to see things very close to me I have to take my glasses off :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: Reading glasses here I come  I'm effin old :banghead: :banghead:
In other words I don't think my figure painting is going to improve
Ed I just cut off the wings and nose's . This is actually going to fit together pretty well :o ;D
Looks interesting and welcome back
Welcome back! Nice to see you around here again.
Heh, heh: T-Tail....T-Tail....ha.
I'm going to PM you with my own current Mustang conversion (hasn't hit this forum yet).
You'll be pleasantly surprised: we are both crazy in the same way at the same time...
Your pilot figure looks like John Belushi in "1941"

Ron's back!
Looks like it's gonna bee a great comeback build.
Hey y'all thanks
Arc I'll definitely be looking over your stuff to come up with some painting ideas
Sisko glad to be back modelers block sucks :banghead:
Screamin Rat ...I cannot effin wait....though you might like her tail....
Howdy Jeff I ain't been in your part of Cali in a while PM or call bubba.

Wait, what's that sound? Oh, yeah, hundreds of JMN gritting their teeth...
Interesting looks from above in the last image. The overall length would almost make this a candidate for a nose wheel.

Yeah, but would there be room under the Griffon?!?
Welcome back to the fold, Ron - good to see you back up to your old sledgehammery as always.
Looking forward to where this beastly beauty will come out - elliptical wings, t-tail, and that long schnoz... she'll be pretty damn impressive. I'm with Jeff, she looks almost long and heavy enough in the nose she'd lean forward and want a nosewheel with that griffon.
AAAHHH It's so good to be back . It's also good to be back with like minds. I purposely left the nose long and mounted it high to make room for a nose wheel. I had originally intended to mount the nose low and add guns above the engine but I think it blends better this way. Anyway everyone knows this will have a 16 cylinder Toolslinger Engine Works motor so there should be no problem fitting anything I like around it  ;D
Nose cannon ???? :)
You've been missed around these parts, Ron! Already you've got me excited to see your next update to these two wonders. The nosewheel and T tail are some very innovative ideas, pardner!

Brian da Basher
This is going to look fantastic, great to have you back!
Thanks Y'all  I have the wings on now and some putty slung. I just got the word that I have to go back to work and I have to fly :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: So probably no more modeling for me til around the 24th. I will do some sanding work and try to get the tail on before I have to leave Monday.
Here is where she is right now. I got the wings installed and some putty on as well as the engine air intake

Great minds think alike  ;D
Hi Ron! ;D
Nice project. Glad to know you are back at the bench.
Nice nose Ron!
Just one thing: if the air intake's there, how is it going to have a nosewheel?
It's good to be back EBlue
Weaver I am still working out all the placement details
I got a major wild hair(hare) last night. I wanted to get both the Spitfire and Mustang stink off this one and just was not satisfied with the lower countours so I.......
Added a bunch o plastic

I could not leave this project behind. You folk that have been here for a while have seen me build in motel rooms before. That was always with me driving and able to take anything I wanted with me. For the next 2 weeks I will be on the road but I have to fly. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
I have to check all my tools and of course I cannot carry any chemicals but I have come up with a hard container to be carried in a soft plastic carry on bag. I will stuff the plastic case with rolled up paper towels to keep the model from bouncing around  I am really looking forward to going through security tomorrow

WOW! That looks like it might be more putty than styrene by the time you get if finished.
Ed
The belly mods look great Ron. Mind you, before you threw the putty at it, I saw those two tubes in front of the rad intake and thought you were going to give it a couple of socking great guns: can't think where I got that idea..... ;)
So, what do you think you're going to find out that you've forgotten when you get to your hotel room.....
Well I brought all my sanding sticks. With all that putty that should be all I need for a couple o weeks ;D  I figure to pick up some putty and glue in Albuquerque.
Eds it does weigh about a pound and a half with all the plumbers putty in the nose and wing roots.
I live in Abq

The white putty you see on the plane is the AquaMend. It looks green in the tube but turns white when you mix it.
In an few hours I will sand it and post some more pics.
I see some sanding in your future !

Ah, STS, aka "The Puttyist"
Love it already, Ron!
Thanks my brother  I just spent an hour resanding the putty I stuck on this am. Waiting on primer to dry
It's looking good.
All this prep work will be worth it when the main paint job goes on
Waiting for more
Sisko I certainly hope the final finish lives up to all the effort

Thanks for the shots of your heavenly painting area and the view from your bench! You've got this city guy green with envy!
One thing I really like about you is how you never cease to take a few steps back to get everything just right. Man I wish I had that kind of fortitude!
This baby's gonna be hotter than a real down-home Texas BBQ!

Brian da Basher
Thanks B ;D I could not resist going back a little further and adding some extra guns to this baby  I did not want to go the traditional route of nose or wing guns. I figured with all the the extra metal fairing in the belly scoops there should be plenty o room for guns and ammothere too so

No problem: have you seen my T-tail Spitfire last year? ( http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,26127.0.html ). It works... Keep faith!
Beauty  Thanks Tophe
Looking great, Ron! Love the cool, intimidating black finish and the awesome T-tail!
I can see it in black with red stars...

Thanks B ;D No dice on the black finish though. This will be a desert based plane. Here is the base color on the camo and build progress

Me love me some Malcome Hood!
Damn, that is a pretty sexy looking bird you got there, STS - the razorback bubbletop on that long, sleek, big-engined fuselage. Very nice looking piece of work.
Beau-ti-ful
Oh hell yeah that looks good - wanna see the colours!!!!!
Thanks all y'all  I'm thinking Light Earth and Black for the other colors. I just recoated the canopy and sanded some tiny details. More when stuff dries.
I decided to go with light earth and panzer gray

Better pics later gotta move about 200 miles :banghead:
Love the camo - love the guns!
It's definately different ! Love the camo and the guns, very neat. Especially the ones on the belly. The tail kinda wierds it out for me, tho...just doesn't look right up there.
Neato! The tail's kinda odd for me too but its still cool. I know they did that underside camo in real life but does anyone know WHY? Seems to cancel itself out.
Love your, er, bottom, Ron. :o
Looks super cool and incredibly sleek (and I'm not just saying that 'cause she's a T-Tail, either!).
This just got bumped up to "11"
Thanks y'all  Some minor disasters over the last couple o days ( life not models) but I should be back at it tomorrow.
In 1942 North American Aviation was approached by the British to build P-40's for the ongoing war against the Axis. Since the US had still not entered the conflict it was decided to build a shadow factory in England. The company was renamed Northumberland Aviaton. During Negotiations and setup North American engineers in collaboration with both SuperMarine and Toolslinger Engine Works of the RoT put forthe the propositon that they could construct a much superior aircraft. The British gov't ,encouraged by both the US and RoT who were also interested in the new design, agreed but stipulated that the design must be ready in 100 days. The result was the Zephyr

Obviously I have started decals
The Northumberland Zephyr shown is the personal mount of Lt. Ron Fulce ,son of the chief engineer of Toolslinger Engine Works. Already a fully qualified combat pilot for the RoT airforce, Fulce enlisted in the RAF to be able to send in field reports to Northumberland Aviation (and the RoT gov't) of the performance of the new aircraft.
No 73 Squadron was originally assigned to Malta and then in various locals in Africa and the Middle East. The aircraft were modified in the field and repainted numerous times ,often using captured materials. Reports from the field resulted in many changes to the aircraft including divorced, crossover capable oil coolers, and integral sand filters built in from the factory.

The Zepyrs quickly became the preeminent desert fighter. Their 16 cylinder TEW engine was well cooled with jackets around each cylinder and twin oil coolers . Later models were equipped with 5 bladed props, 1 inch cannon and two additional .60 caliber machine guns on the lower fuselage.

I have never put my own name on a model
I figured since this is my first in better than a year I deserved it  ;D
Tomorrow I will weather and dull cote
Ron, you do deserve to have your name on that beautiful beastie. Seriously, that is awesome work. Really wicked stuff you have there. Good to see you back in the fold.
Thanks Saur  Some wonderful folk printed me up some nifty decals up a couple years ago and I have never used the ones with my name on it. It's kind of embarrassing  I guess it's a tribute to my brother modeler who made me the decals ;D
