Now how could anybody not love a Phantom ? Such an awesome, awesome bird......do anything, anywhere !
Here's my CAF Gulf War bird, circa 1990...all loaded up with 18 'dumb' bombs, two Sparrows, two 'Winders, a tank and a pod.........
And that's a miniature version of one of JHMs meat hooks in there as well...........
Enjoy !
Topside, give us the topside!

Is it CAF??
Gulf War??
Can we have a topside view??
Revellhave just released a Spey Phantom, the Hasegawa FGR.2 in 1/48th.
Look good in Desert Pink.
What paint mix did you use.
I've found that adding a drop of sand to Tamiya Flesh looks good.
also, just plain Tamiya Flesh looks great as well....a sort of luminous quality!
I've still got a bunch of work to do on it......so top views will follow !
And yep, shes CAF Gulf War alright...to go along with my Phantoms scenerio, having bought them instead of Voodoos, 104s and CF-5s.........
I still have three or four more Phantoms to build, then I'll do up my article. I'm gonna post it on ARC for April Fools day next year....if I ever get them all done !
And paint is good old Humrol number 93....straight from the tin ! I think it's an Isreali tank colour ?
Cheers !
Toadman
I thought it was Humbrol 402 (Prairie Wheat Razor) :D

Yeah yeah, sure, whatever, now give us the important detail, what's in the glass in the background?
Chimay....a lovely beer brewed by the Trappist Monks over there in Belgium. It's one of those re-fermented in the bottle beers.
Yummy !
Looking good Toad!!
Can't wait to see the whole line-up!!

Hey Ollie !
Yeah, the line-up in the styrene cave is starting to look pretty impressive ! Once these two are done, I'm thinking of a few more specials, as well as maybe a Snowbird example. Now wouldn't that be a treat for the boys if the CAF let 'em fly Phantoms for a season or two ?!
Any other ideas out there ? I may be running out !
Toadman :P
Lookin' good Toad!
What about all those special Hornet schemes? You could put a few of them on the F-4s!!!

I was kinda thinking of those, but I'm not a real big fan of them. I might do the 75th bird, as it was pretty sweet, also, I'd like to do one in the new AETE colours.
Merci pour le entree, mon ami !
Toad...having no clue how to accent est gou on a computer !

Try modeling after a glass of the "Triple Brewed" stuff !
So, are we ever going to get a look at the dorsal side or did you forget to paint the topside, Toad????
(Well, I did notice the beer on deck...anything's possible, eh?)
C'mon you tease!

Hi Todd
How about getting Revells Re-release of the British Phantom and doing a RCN version or maybe it in 5 Sqdn RAF crossed deployed to Canada to support the Norad Air defence screen (Possibly in a special scheme with a full colour tail sporting a large green 5 and a Red Maple Leaf).
That the sort of idea your looking for, should look different from the rest of the conventional line up. Or you could get brave and convert one to the Phantom HL with an extended fusleage and reshaped wings for use on smaller carriers.
Cheers

   What about British Spey F-4Ks (or the USN equivalent F-4T...unbuilt) to operate from RCN Carriers?
A whole range of schemes:
The "original" two-tone grey as on the Banshees and Sea Furies, et al.
A USN variation with big roundels instead, but Gull Grey over White?
A RN sheme, Dark Grey over white?
Low-viz USN/USMC type?
Midnight Blue?
Aggressor type?

Hi guys,
I've come too far with all these F-4Js to do a Spey powered job. I ws thinking about it, tho ! I saw a Revell new-release boxing at my local store....56 bucks ! Ouch ! I could get three Testors kits for that, and judging by the photos on the box, it's of similar quality.
I'd like to do an RF example...any kits of it in 48th ?
Also, an aggressor sounds good...never thought of that one !
QuoteI've come too far with all these F-4Js to do a Spey powered job.:
Not even second hand ex RAF ones? We did try and flog ours to all and sundry when they left service - a deal with Greece was nearly made. Why not Canada to boost their numbers?
If the RCN can afford big carriers, go with the F-4J or F-4S.
If only tiny carriers, the F-4K was the one. The idea was also there for the USN to use the Spey-powered F-4T from their smaller F-8 Crusader-compatable carriers.
Go for the SPEY ones.
The Revell FGR2 is from Hasegawa FAR superior to the Italeri one. But, donkey you've shown, the Italeri one still looks nice and has stores galore!!!

Hasegawa have just released 2 1/48th RF birds....RF-4C and RF-4E.
Also Testors did an RF-4 too a few years ago.
OR....convert an "E" to an-Israeli-type F-4X with special cameras?
OR.....do what the RAF did.....have a big pod under the centre!!

HAPPY 'TOOMS!!!!!!!
Part of my scenario is going to be Canada switching from larger carriers ( using Buccaneer attackers and F-4 AWF/A ) to smaller carriers with SHARs ( sound the death knell *here* ) So that's why I'm sticking with J's.
And as for RFs vs. podded recce birds...I wnt to do one with the VICON camera pod that the CAF used on 104s, and then we take on RFs when the Yanks retire them from Europe.
Thanks for the input, boys...always appreciated !
Toad, Attackers are now under production :D
Lookin' good jimmy !
Now...where's that duck that laid the goldenhawk...........?
Ooh, I almost missed the Bucc in the foreground. What scale are we talking? Airfix 48th?
QuoteOoh, I almost missed the Bucc in the foreground. What scale are we talking? Airfix 48th?
Hi Nev
That would be the 1/72 as wee Jimmy said he got the Gulf War double set with the Jaguar that we have already seen.
B)
That's correct. It's 1:72. Currently trying to decal this out in RCN markings. Have a few ideas. Hope to paint intake edges silver as well as leading edges. Thinking of black radome/nose. Arming it up is a dilemma. Need to work out time frame it goes into RCN service and select appropriate package.
can we have more pics of that wonderful CAF Phantom?
I'll have to dig them out......another one of my long standing, never gonna-be finished projects !
:banghead:
