From time to time, I've often seen or heard about modelers who will only model a certain subject/catagory that they like and nothing else. It may be modelers who will only build IJN battleships, or modelers who will only build specific classes of tanks, or modelers who will only build a certain time frame of a modeling subject.
So my question is for everyone: How many here have, or are, doing the same thing? What particular subjects have you constantly built time after time over again (if any) that you have enjoyed? What particular subject fascinates you the most that you would build it time after time in one version or another?
For myself, although I never fully made good on my promise to have a model collection of the following, I still dream about it from time to time. I've always wanted to build every stealth fighter, bomber, and other stealth subject I could get my hands on and have a massive stealth model collection of F-19's, F-117's, SR-71's, etc., etc. with every variation possible. I love stealth aircraft. :wub:
By big theme is JSDF, real and whiff. With sub-intrests in Italian and Indian subjects.
I would also like to one day have a line-up of all the British tanks beginning with "C", from A13 Cruiser to Challenger II. Got a long way to go with that one :D

I like aircraft from 1950 to 1995, mainly Soviet or British though it does wonder to other things at times ;D ;D ;D
To be fair though I haven't built a non whif kit in around 2 years now, it's all this sites fault
Guess i should also say I like anti flash white and i truely believe all planes can be improved with the addition of full colour British roundels ;D ;D ;D
With the exception of wargaming figures (of which you need rather a lot to make up a unit) I do not think I have ever built the same thing twice. Nor do I really intend to. It would stiffle the imagination you see.
I'm trying to build as many different things as possible, subject to space limits (so can't do much 1/48th+). I have a natural preference for "metal jets", i.e. 1944 to mid '80s, but I try not to settle into a comfort zone. There's tanks under way, and boats and spaceships on the to-do list.
I toyed with the idea, but then went the other way completely. I've always been particularly fascinated with Swedish aviation & when I got back into modelling the intention was to concentrate on Swedish subjects with a bit of others on the side. Never happened like that, I've done one Tunnan since which I never completed.
You could say whiff is my niche. I haven't built a real subject for some time.
ive just finished a project that saw me focus on 1/24 cars.............resulted in 28 cars in 18 months so im enjoying a change of genre
have a thing about Gerry Anderson stuff
but i like to try as many different things as possible....got into aircraft recently.....current projects on the go are armour in 1/76 and 1/48, TIE fighter and a 1/72 whiff helo..............coming up is another 1/12 bike which i love doing

Not one subject unless you count 1/72nd scale as the subject. But even then, I will build different scales.
At one time I wanted to model all of the Top Aces aircraft from each Service in each country. First it was WWII but that expanded to WWI, Korea, Vietnam, etc. While I have acquired several kits and a few decals, I still haven't build one of their aircraft.
WWII - The Desert War, Malta, D-Day and Normandy, Ploesti and 8th Air Forces. Also an interest in Torpedo planes, sea planes, night fighters, gliders, Mitchel gun ships, P-38s, B-17s and Beaufighters. Also would like to do a plane from each participant in the War. Also like attack craft (PT, E, MTB) and Landing craft and the Snowberry and Gato are on the list.
Korean War - First Kills (F-82 and F-80) and aces (USAF, USN, Marines, RAAF, RN, Soviet/N. Korean)
Arab/Israeli - These wars still inspire me, especially the 6 Day War. Lots of books in the collection, decals, etc. Both aircraft and armor models to be made. Really would like to do a diorama of those 3 burnt out Mig-21s you always see.
Vietnam - The aircraft and armor again hold my interest. Would love to do a 72nd scale Firebase but where would I keep it (same place my Pegasus Bridge dio with all 3 Gliders and my beach dio when and if I ever do those). The Gunships fascinate me and had all of them in kit form at one time but sold off all but an AC-47 :banghead:. Also got a thing for the Thud, Cranberry and Sandy.
Falklands - Mainly the Air War here. There was a great book at the local library I checked out all the time. Detailed the aircraft involved and the actions they flew in. Lots of profiles, pictures,etc. Then the library must have sold it off and I missed out, now can't find the book anywhere. Got lots of decals, other books and a Sea Harrier started and Vulcan waiting.
Desert Storm - Again, air and armor from this conflict. At one time wanted to build every aircraft involved but now would just like to do a few. Favorites are the Buccaneer, Tornado (anyone have Dahrain Annie decals in 72nd) and A-10.
Air Forces of the World especially Small Air Forces - This has been scaled back but still would like to model an aircraft from every country that flies them. Have several Islander kits waiting on markings and need a couple more. Problem is some of the obscure types are hard to find as kits. Would like an F-16 in the markings of every country to fly it.
Autos - not the mainstream or racers for me, like the customs and Movie/TV related. Got a Herbie, Ecto 1, S'cool Bus, Pink Panther Mobile and with the new rereleases from Revell, a Rommel's Rod and Tijuana Taxi with a Circus (Dragon) Wagon to follow. Also looking forward to the '66 Batmobile when it comes out so I won't have to try and convert my Futura.
Sci-Fi - While I prefer 72nd scale kits (Battlemech, Star Wars, etc) I will build most scales here. Besides, where you gonna put a 72nd scale NCC-1701? Besides the main shows (SW, ST, SG, Battlestar) I would love to build some Hovertanks from Hammer's Slammers and a Bolo. Also have a thing for the Battlemech Universe but mainly the older mechs and in 72nd. Not really into Gundam or MAK but would like some of those Bandai armor pieces if they would release them in 72nd.
As you can see, I am pretty much set with just one interest. Oh, yeah, I also like What Ifs in Air and Armor. Mainly just remarking them but there are a few conversions also planned.
I personally vary between ships (1/700) and aircraft (mostly 1/72 jets), but I do find myself coming back to the harrier/sea harrier family often and my other default mode are the flawed, but very cool US Navy aircraft of the 50's: Sea Dart, Pogo, Tradewind, Sea Master etc. Armor and vehicles are rare, and figures never.
I have a friend (who better remain nameless........) who ONLY built A-7 Corsair IIs in 1/72 scale!
He had HUNDREDS of them, USN, USAF, Greek and others, but he still reckoned he'd not done them all after about 10 years. Goodness knows why, but that's single minded modellers for you..........

wikipedia says ~1500 of the things were made, counting changes of livery etc you could spend a lifetime trying to build every one of them :wacko:
In my Youth, yes I can vaguely remember that( alcohol not age related) I had a thing for everything Vietnam war, particularly the helicopters.
So my model collection consisted of about 20 UH-1's mainly H models, AH-1's, Chocktaws, Shawnees, CH-46's, ch-53's HH-3's and all were in the same colour also, so you can imagine what the comments from the untrained eye (mother) were "why have you bought all the same model and done them all the same, they look stupid like that!!" Hmm? be quiet and get out of my LZ Mum!! was the answer. Then alot of these got modified into US marine helos, and wer joined by copious amounts of newer helos in the grey green black camo, and yep you guessed it the mother spouted the same thing.
God help her if she saw most of my US stuff now, as it is all low vis grey :lol: bless ;D

OMG, I must check with him and see if he's still at it!
Let's see. Since I also belong to the Harrier SIG I have quite a few of those. And I do have a thing for Lawn Darts (F-16s). And let's not forget my beloved Scooters! At last count, about 50+ of those.
As for themes, I tend SAAF but I'm really all over the place. And all scales too. But there are 400+ more kits in the stash with few doubles so I guess I like just about everything! :blink:
I have a few subjects which I try to do, any aircraft flown by the RCAF which I can get in 1/72 scale (I've not counted the ones I have yet but it's quite a few), Spitfires/Seafires/Spitefuls/Seafangs ( 40+ of those all 1/72), and prototypes in 1/72 (props, jets and I've not counted those either).
But the What-Iffing bug has me by the throat at the moment and all these projects are on the backburner, except maybe the prototypes.
1/72nd scale helicopters; and yes, I am finally admitting I am burned out on them.
I'm having much more fun working on sci-fi and Gundam model kits.
Anyone looking for 1/72nd scale helos can feel free to contact me - I'd like to deplete the stash.

There was a guy on ARC a few years back who was building every F-16 of his local ANG squadron. 20-odd identical grey planes, the only difference being the serial number :banghead:
Well obviously i had a fling with TSR2 when involved with the SIG and in my youth it was the Airfix 1/600 post war warships. especially the Leander.
