Well, as noted in other threads, this is quite possibly the finest kit I have ever seen. Yeah, it is pricey, but man, oh man...the detail and quality is unbelievable.
Starting on the underpainting:

Dang that's some pretty detail.
That is very nice, I am loking forward to seeing that when its done, what scale is it please???
That turret looks like it is going to be well tooled up......want one...er several
The detail does look very nice! Lookin' forward to more!
<gets popcorn and sits down>
This is going to be sweet.
Evil thought-why not whif the whif, Greg? Convert it to a single barreled beast!
What Gundam series are we talking about? Universal Century, Cosmic Era, Gundam 00?
The model is from MS Igloo, the currently ongoing CGI UC Gundam OVA set in the One Year War. The M61A5 is the mount of the main character of MS Igloo 2 Episode 2.

Kit is 1/35th scale.
They also make a set in 1/144th with 2 of the tanks, several other vehicles and figs and a bot.

Ahhhhhhh that explains the difference between the model and the Type 61's seen in 08th MS Team

I know the UC Hardgraph stuff is pricey, but at 35th scale and some bloody interesting stuff hat's off bigtime to Bandai for the effort.
The Type 61 looks like a ripper Greg.

Mav
So...is there a Bad Guy tank in Ye Olde Stash of Yeourze?
That's some seriously cool stuff you're making!

Thanks, I can't take much credit for how this is going together though...this is almost a "shake and bake" model. Chipped the hull and wheels using salt:

Doesn't matter how good the kit is if you don't have any skill. Greg, ya got mad skills! ;D This one's gonna be a beauty! lookin' good
Lots of pieces later:

Dang you have got mad skills my brother.
Wow! :o That looks great!
Greg, That looks amazing - the weathering looks perfect. And so does the photography. What are you using to light the model?
Thanks again !
I use a table set up with a twin set of 40 watt 48" fl. bulbs (worklight) suspended above, and pen lights, studio lighting, or flash as necessary. I take about 400 images of every model in progress, then pick through them and get the better ones for use in publication. The culls are reduced in size and published on photobucket at a reasonable pixelation (700x1200) for use on the web. I built the whole thing into a closet recess, so I can have the lighting ready whenever I need it.

Times deuce!! I love watching a professional at work!! ;D
Now we need a photography of the photography set-up!
Did manage to get the barrels on today, and now onto the little tiny bits:

Between the model's fantastic moldings and your seriously talented painting skills, your photos look too good to be true----like enhanced CGI of some kind! Scary good.
WOW that is soooooooooooooo cool    :thumbsup:can i ask whare you got that kit from???
Outstanding work, Old Wise One! I especially like your weathering and treatment of the gun barrels.

smart*ss. LOL
The kit is available from Hobby Link Japan, but brace yourself for the sticker shock. To be honest, at first I thought it was too expensive...but after laying out 60 bucks for a Dragon kit that is half the size and a quarter of the quality, I can see why it costs so much.

nice thing!!!
how much costs such a thing and where is it to buy?
I found mine a bit cheaper on E-bay about 68 bucks plus 11 for shipping and insurance
BTW It's looking Killer I wish I was as good with a airbrush as you
"Panzer"
Gorgeous work sir!...the shadowing and shading on the armour is just superb!...
The paint job is easier to do than it appears. The build up should be on MM in the next week or so.
That is a wicked looking critter.
Mine just arrived today And you are right Greg this thing is a work of art I give it
"Panzer"
That tank is a work of art
Finally wrapped up and ready for the review!

That is sharp
:o Sierra Hotel, man!
Looks like it was worth the asking price Greg.

Oh yes! Utter perfection, Wise Old One!

Thanks! You have to see the size of this beast to believe it ! (look at the size of the commander) :tank:
I'm guessing the engine is out front, Merkava-style? What a beast. A pair of those could hold Fulda Gap against all comers. I wouldn't want to try maneuvering one in an urban environment, but out in the open...
Dang that turned out freakin awesome.
Juliette Charlie, look at that monster. That thing would be a pure end wrecking machine sitting in the right locations. Urban warfare is not for that, she's an open country tank like the Konigstiger. Long as the rounds held out and the skies were clean, she'd be a wrecking machine.
The engine probably is front, look at the vents over the track guards, they look suspiciously like exhausts as well.
Bravo Zulu, man.
That is a truely awsome beastie well done
Yeah, the engine is in front on that version of the Type 61. It only has two crew as well, since the rest of the turret space is taken up with ammo and the loading system for the twin cannons.
Awesome work on the kit, chu, very awe-inspiring!
Fantastic job on a very cool looking tank Greg!
That's just crazy, Chief----Crazy!
Nicely done Greg. Just wished they would do these vehicles in 72nd scale.
There actually is a build up of one of these over in the gallery at Track-Link of all places. He did a different camo and has an interesting story along with it. Course, I like your build better
http://www.track-link.net/gallery/6439
You know I was tossing up between buying the Hasagawa Falke and this. Your fantastic build has made me decide that although it is more expensive the tank is more fun!
And that is what it all about!
The review is up:
http://modelingmadness.com/reviews/misc/scifi/ewaldsftank.htm
I will be refering to your review repeatedly when I get to building mine Greg, lots of useful info there and I know that dreaded "CLICK" all too well. I have been building Bandai Mobile suits for a while now
"Panzer"
Great review, Greg. The model itself? Well, it's freaky good!
Too bad the review link isn't valid anymore, guess I'll have to go look for it. Sad to read a thread like this, defo miss Greg, his personality, opinion and all of the interesting bits outside of model building. The tank looks great, the man had talent that's for sure. I'd like to see a pic with the turret turned around, I think it would look good either way 'round !
