Gluey fingerprints and all !
This baby has been languishing for years. I bet I started it 6 years ago......
Designed under an UOR for as an Osprey escort.

That's just magnificently perverse, Toad!
I think I like it!!!
Brian da Basher
Wicked!!!
Regards,
Greg
just out of curiousity, would the rotors clear the tails during various maneuvers?
Shas 8)
Cap'n this is just so wicked, so krazy, so illogical that it deserves to fly....scort for some Marines Rotodynes!!
Rafa
OH SO COOL Cap'n. I saw you posted this but I have not been able to see pictures for the last couple of days due to an idiotnet problem. This is so slick. I wish I had come up with it.
Now that's one of the most unique and imaginitive designs on here in a long time. Very cool!
I think I mentioned this way back in the build thread, but it reminds me of an alien (from the Alien movies).
I remeber when you first started this off.
I was a little unsure but I thought what the hell let's wait until it is finished.
Now I am sure........that it looks cool!!
Cool.
When i first saw this thread i thought you were going down the rotor-less route and just having the cobra body as a fuselage in the P-38 style. But keeping the rotors gives it VTOL and makes it a versatile beastie.
Well done again.
Thanks guys !
And don't worry, Ves....I've been doing 'various' manouvers with her for years now, and we haven't had a crash yet !
This is so "out of the box" that there IS no box! You have a very fertile mind, Captain!

Over the top !
I agree: you are
over the top of what-if modellism, dear Captain:
Such a lovely model...
Just a little extra question: what about anti-torque...?
I guess, either:
- the starboard engine has more power/rpm than the port one
- the direction of the propellers is very slightly oblical
- the rotor is power-less just freely rotating for STOL lift (but what are the pod turbine exhausts for?)
Anyway, I love it, as a desk model, love it so much...
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh     *EXPLOSIVE WHIFFGASM*
'nuff said. Carry on.
That is just incredible! I really enjoy this one.
Eddie
Proof positive that it's possible for something to be both butt-ugly and droolingly sexy!
Now that's just plain AWESOME, Toad! That's gotta be the most "different" model I've ever seen from you. I really like it! :drink:
Ahhhh one of Toads' superbbeer assisted projects finally gets its' Rol Out...... looks good dunnit
Ian
Completely mad, but I wish I'd thought of it! Looks great
Holy Crap Cap'n!
This is cool, I don't remember this one's in progress thread, so it must be old, or I must be old, or maybe both ;D
Very bizarre... I like it!!!
A gyroCobra, cool. Very James Bond.
One of the most insane things I have ever seen! Very cool.
How do you come up with designs like this? It's fantastic!
I have both a 1/72 Bronco and Apache, and they've been sitting forlornly in my closet for years now. Never would it have occurred to me to mate the two.
You should change your handle to Major Canada... and what is it with ultra talented Canadian modelers? Is it the beer? The water? The long winters with -200F temps?
Frank
Way to go Todd
Freakishly wonderful!
Remember you starting this one the first time i was around here. And glad I can now see the finished product.
Fabulous, wonderfull, cool, great................. And I could go on like that.
Simply said:
WOW
So COOOOOL
Thanks alot, guys....you're too kind !
Nice one! Uniquely original concept...

Dear Captain, your model is wonderful for our eyes, but our brains would like to admire as well... Could you tell us: is this an autogyro? What are the pod turbines for? aircon? or NOTAR with one turbine blowing and the other inspiring? The explanation may be funny, just tell us, imagine...
Sorry Tophe ! I forgot to reply to that one.....
Not sure about the physics of it all, just thought it would look cool. I suppose I thought that with two props, they would somehow couteract the torque. I imagined it as having all four engines producing power....and it would fly much like the Rorodyne.
Cheers !

I like the Ro
rodyne name, mistyping may be funny too...
Uh, I tried to understand, with Google, asking this aircraft name:
1/ pictures: 2 propellers+1 single rotor+0 anti-torque rotor, this seemed to be the Broncobra forefather, yes!
2/ texts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairey_Rotodyne : "the Rotodyne featured a jet-tipped powered rotor burning fuel with compressed air bled from two wingtip mounted Napier Eland turboprops"... All falls down for the Rotodyne/Broncobra family: 2 engines/4 engines, jet-tipped powered rotor/axial powered rotor...
Well, good try anyway, try again... ;D
The Fairey Gyrodyne may be a better forefather, while having only one asymmetric propeller for anti-orque... Maybe with 2 (slightly) oblical propellers, this could be the same, no?
Anyway, the Broncobra is a marvellous prototype (strongly enriching the twin-boom family), that I would love even if she is unable to fly... The US Marines that bought it (in your dreams?) would be simply naive... (do you say in English: "green"?), spending taxpayer's money for beauty ;D

Well, they are used to it.....just think Comanche !

That's how the Eurocopter X
3 does it. It also doesn't have a tail rotor and relies on differing pitch setting of the props to provide an anti-torque effect.
Love it.
Thanks guys. It was a fun build...and it sure took me long enough !
Must have missed this one first time round. Whacky, whiffy and wantable ;D. Really works for me, however mad. Two great a/c for the price of one .

I also add my renewed congratulations!
Such models are just the perfect symbol of why I love what-ifism (or what-ifery?): surprising harmony and probable efficiency, enriched families and missing links, in an extra World, free, without sad command to focus only on what is true.
Thanks again: a million thanks!
