Title: Xtrakit's Sea Vixen (72nd)
Post by: Maverick on May 27, 2008, 06:10:36 PM
G'day Gang,

Hyperscale has a preview (supplied by Hannants) of the new Xtrakit Sea Vixen.  Streets ahead of the Frog/Revell issue (although t'wasn't a bad kit) and no doubt eagerly awaited.

I think I like this one, it has air intake ducts and engine fronts

Looks a nice kit.  I like the SV, except for the funky offset canopy.  I can picture it modified with a Bucc canopy though...maybe in USN colors!

A US built tandem version would work well, similar to the mods made to Canberra to produce the B-57?  Another option would be a Venom NF canopy for a FGA version, no need for the coal-hole with a strike aircraft.

Like the look of it so far, especially the seperate parts to allow for FAW1 and FAW2. Back end is nice as it allows us to try different engine options.

Hopefully we should see it soon

That's exactly what I'm cutting bits off sprue to do now, using a mixture of a Novo Sea Vixen, an unwanted Airfix B-57 nose (to be suitably shaved to fit), a Hobbycraft F-4 (bought strictly for whiffing, of course!) cockpit interior and probably a Tornado GR1 radome.
The original idea was to use a Javelin front end - but while it looked feasable in side view the contours are just all wrong in plan (ie Javelin too skinny).
To be called a 'Supervixen', and my present to me by Christmas this year.  Watch this space, I guess! ;D ;D

How the hell can u call the flying flat iron "Skinny"?

The Xtrakit Vixen looks good, might even have to get one.

Well it's hard but not impossible.  In side view it all matches up closely enough to keep the filling etc to a minimum, but in plan view.....
Don't forget the Javelin was a tandem-seater, whereas the Sea Vixen was side-by-side.  There's not much in it but there is a difference, honestly! ;D ;D

Or as a single seater for a strike fighter, depends on if you need the GIB.
