Title: MFG Finback-B
Post by: Captain Canada on April 22, 2008, 07:10:15 AM
With round one of the playoffs almost done, here's my first "stanley Cup Build".I spend alot of time in front of the tele this time of year ! I should be starting another one soon. I figure in honour of the Nevsters mighty Red Wings, I'll give him the option of picking out the next avion et scheme to go with it. Pick something affordable, eh ?

After the reunion of Germany, MFG 2 traded in their trusty Starfighters for the Shenyang J-8II. Shown here in the high-speed configuration, the a/c would carry a single anti-ship missile. With a far greater range than the 104, the Finback was also used for reconnaissance of the Baltic.

Oh, me loves absolutely! And not that far off either! (although they would probably be gone after 5 years anyway)

:tornado:

PS: looks like part of the "MARINE" decal has decided to abandon ship

Looks great, though I can't imagine the Shenyang J-8II coming after the reunion of Germany.  Maybe instead East Germany gets some which are then acquired at unification.  Also, given the Starfighters could carry two Kormorans, wouldn't it be a backward move for this to only carry one?

Regards,

Greg

Great model of a cool looking aircraft.

Sorry or are my eyes decieving me? In one pic it says MARINE and later it says RINE.

Beautiful model, Captain.  That scheme looks right at home on that bird.

Now, was that perfect water diorama patio table bought at Canadian Tire or Revy????

I would not have the guts to hold my model up with a chunk of clotheshanger wire taped to a glass table!!!

That's stunning.  I thought at first, Shenjiang+luftwaffe. . . nahhhh. . .  But I was wrong.  That thing looks great.  The long, slinky look really fits.

I wonder if a green or blue blanket under the glass table would add to the water effect?

Great model, Toad!  Thing almost looks like it's flying over the water from that over head shot showing your patio table

Thanks for all the comments, guys ! After that China/ USN incident, it was one of those a/c that really intrigued me. I started it, but was at a loss as to what to do with it. Then the idea of the German unification struck me.....

As for the glass table, it's from Zehrs. Some of you might recall the pile of 72nd scale tanks I was doing a few years back. I took the photos on the table and somebody commented about the watery look.

And yes, the decals did come off with my sticky fingers !

Baz, it was really windy this morning, too ! She fell over once, but luckily for me the combination of Mr. Trumpeters fine kits and lots of Testors tube glue held 'er together.

Greg, that was the idea....they were transfered after the two German countries reunited. As for the single missile, that pic was of the 'high speed' configuration. Thanks to you, I had to add some more ! Here's the standard fit. I actually like it better now, with the tanks and the orange bits. I did have to cut it down from the ceiling where I had it hanging, tho.....

Thanks again, guys !

Whoa, does that ever look sinister all dressed up with ordnance like that-----great modification.

I could never hang something this cool up on the ceiling-----how the heck do you play with the model that way?

The indoor & outdoors shots show how much light can effect the colouration on models, I thought at first this second set of photos was of a different build!  Great stuff & nice loadout too.

I've been in on the Marinefleiger thing myself recentley, got to love German colour schemes!

Hahaha ! Good one ! To tell you the truth, that's the whole reason I wanted this aeroplane in the first place. After seeing the reports from the collision, I fell in love ! But, upon building the beast....I realized that she just wouldn't turn. With those little tiny wings...she had a great AOA, but other than that, she was just no fun to fly around.

Now, if I had myself a Marinefleiger Hornet !

Very nice.  Makes me wonder what a post-reunification frogfoot might look like in Luftwaffe colours - maybe in a sceme similar to the later Alpha Jet schemes (not that clued up on the name of the scheme or the colours - but basically the two greens and a grey scheme the QinetiQ AJs were in when they were delivered)?  ;D ;D

Sorry I missed this thread Todd - this is actually the 3rd or 4th time I've opened this thread and each time I've been kicked off by the family before I could view it!  Even now I'm fighting off the boy who want to go on the ceebeebies website!

Anyways, beauty concept - that whole German reunification is a goldmine of potential whiffs. Great looking scheme simple, but effective.

As for the choice of the next one (assuming you've not already started).  In honour of my Detroit Redwings, I say a Swedish import in American markings.  I'll leave you to fill in the gaps
