Title: Tigershark . . . with a twist
Post by: Shasper on February 24, 2008, 10:45:42 AM
Ok my first project for the Spring Break GB started life as my sole entry into ARCs Monogram GB, but I never got a chance to finish it in time. (See http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=119400 (http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=119400))

Well yesterday I pulled it out of the closet, did a little prepwork & snapped a couple of pics:

(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi39.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe183%2FShadowreaper551%2FIMG_2388.jpg&hash=b50bd9ab4c8898c73531f8576ef3cbf88fb6d83d)
(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi39.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe183%2FShadowreaper551%2FIMG_2390.jpg&hash=78f872935a34db08faee380c6fe24444f72457d5)

The fillerwork on the fwd fuselage & the missile rails on the pylons are the only work I've done to date. Still to be added are the new fin-mounted ECM pod, Dragchute housing, Intakes. . . Oh yeah, and the new radome.

Got the putty sanded down, re primed & the new radome mounted (after some re-cutting), Also I've got the exact A-4 bits I needed so my scratchbuilding load has been reduced.

Shasper, is that a poncho liner you use to cover your bed? Got mine too, it was a MUST piece of equipment in my old Spec Ops days

Holy thread revival!

Ok so I dug this beaut out of the closet the other day & nearly hurled when I took a good look at the camo, so I reprimed & began repainting it after I found a good camo diagram on ARC. Hope to have a pic or two up later tonight (No homework + small college town nightlife = Modellin' time).

Needless to say, I'm a huge Tigershark fan. This one looks super sh*t hot! ( an old USN compliment ;) )

I have to admit, the Tigershark is quite a sleek and nice looking bird, Bud - I did one myself from the Hase F-20 for the Gray Pride Parade - Of course, I took the sledgehammer to her and refitted her with an RD-33 and some new trunking, but I do like the look of them.

Keep it up!

Sierra Hotel indeed . . . Unfortunatly while I was in the process of moving this one from a safe holding area to my workbench the dern thing decides to take a testflight without my permission, a couple of seconds of fumbling with my hands saw the bird hit the carpet hard enough to twist the right wingtip rail & knock the radome clean off.

Fudrucker!

So now in the morning I'm going to be fixing the damage instead of other things!

Ach mein gott - das ist scheisse!

Sucks she took a carpet dive on you, Bud - Maybe if you're lucky you can get her patched and back on track without too much pain or time in the mix.

Well it didnt take too much time or effort to fix the damage, and I've started adding the last few fiddly bits . . . All thats left is arming & weathering the brute and we're in business!

Nice, good to hear the situation didn't take too much work to rectify, Bud.

Keep up the good work!

Ever since the thawing of relations between the Peoples Republic of China & the US during the 1970s has resulted in a scaling back of (in both quantity & quality) all arms shipments to the Republic of China on Taiwan. During the late '70s the RoCAF had requested US F-16s to replace their F-104s, but instead were given additional F-5s. Northrup had offered their F-20 with licensed production rights to AIDC, but under the existing US export rules the F-20 could not be sold in it's most advanced form.

(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi39.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe183%2FShadowreaper551%2FMy%2520Models%2FF-5%2FIMG_7417.jpg&hash=f914cf699e7b3753b8ddd68265b9c55b0dca4774)

Northrup then offered a downgraded F-20 with the radar & fire control systems from the F-5E. This was found to be acceptable & 72 F-20A(E)s were delivered to Taiwan starting in 1982. These aircraft were fitted with one 20mm cannon with 330 rounds of ammunition, the ALR-45 RWS (installed in a fintip pod) & a A-4 style dragchute housing immediately aft of the arresting hook.

(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi39.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe183%2FShadowreaper551%2FMy%2520Models%2FF-5%2FIMG_7416.jpg&hash=ace6b13918c002e1856036b9cc52a13d3946cfe1)

All aircraft finished in a striking wraparound camo that would be seen later on the AIDC Ching-Kuo.
Normal air defense load-out would be a pair of AIM-7E/H Sparrows & either 2-4 AIM-9J/L Sidewinders

(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi39.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe183%2FShadowreaper551%2FMy%2520Models%2FF-5%2FIMG_7419.jpg&hash=38879a49486c022dcddc703d9ce6180876665f0a)

After the standard F-20 was cleared for export to Taiwan in 1985 the F-20A(E)s were eventually upgraded to production standard by AIDC, with the last aircraft returned to RoCAF service in 1990.

(https://www.whatifmodellers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi39.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe183%2FShadowreaper551%2FMy%2520Models%2FF-5%2FIMG_7418.jpg&hash=4abbe5974b74e9f28ac2d09a43bea6318bde7ee7)

So, after 3 tries at the camo & over a year of off-n-on building this one is *finally* DONE!

I agree, that is striking!  Look good on any aircraft:

Shouldn't be too hard, you could opt for the clean show white scheme... or are you going to load her for TacAir and give her something like Scaly Lizard?

*sigh* If only it were a matter of paint . . . PSR on the mods alone gives me the whillys! See for yourself:
