I just saw this on militaryphotos.net, Mexico's defense minister proposed to the Senate that they replace there old F-5s (9) with 16 F-16s. You can look at the thread your self here (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=121676), the article in the OP is translated at the bottom of the page.
Why not? I had heard that the Mexican Navy wanted FLANKERS. I sh*t you not. B)
And too bad that deal fell through. For now anyway. The Mexican Falcons have a better chance of going through, although,I'm not sure they need 16 to replace 9 Tigers. Then again,I suppose they could always say they need them to counter Venezuela's Flankers or Cuba's (almost) nonexistant air force.

Knowing the state of some air forces south of the border, I suspect that the extra F-16s will end up being used for attrition.
LOL...just think of the "Corona" F-16 !
Next question is, will they be retired A/Bs or fresh build Blk.52+s ?

No they didn't! The Mexican navy selected Sukhoi's Su-27 over the Saab/BAE Systems Gripen to equip its first air defence unit. The fleet of 10 fighters was to enable the navy to carry out "strategic surveillance" over key areas of Mexico's coastline. However, the deal was cancelled at the start of this year (in February, I believe).

Greg
