Title: USAF 60th Gb Rules And Dates
Post by: Nick on July 03, 2007, 04:03:07 PM
So here it is folks, the What-If website celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the United States Air Force.

July 4th is celebrated as Independence Day in the United States.
On September 18th 1947 the United States Air Force was officially formed.

Rules and Dates
These may get amended if we see the need for it.

Any United States Air Force, Air Force Reserve or Air National Guard unit markings can be used.
Special markings (airshow style paintjobs etc) can be used as long as you provide a good reason/backstory.
Any aircraft for the timeframe of 1947 till the current day can be used.
A good, reasonable backstory is a good idea.
Kits completed before 4th July 2007 are not eligible for entry into the competition, but can be displayed in the 'Here's one I built earlier' thread. Please tell us about the kit and backstory to encourage everybody.

Entries must be completed by September 18th 2007. You may build as many as you like but not too many!

Winners will be chosen after a vote by forum members. Prizes are being thought about as we speak. Contributions of prizes will be gratefully accepted.

Moderators are Nick, Shasper and Ysi-Maniac. Our decision is final! :P

*****AMENDMENT*****
The finishing date is now Thursday 4th October, this being the popular result of the vote!

Have Fun,

Ok guys, I'm feeling especially generious so I'll throw in a Italeri X-32 for giggles.

So, are already completed builds available for entry?

Not sure how my compatriots feel about this, but I think entering a completed build would not be in the spirit of this GB. (GD I need to use my bucket before I type   )

Note, this aint gospel untill herr Nick decrees. ;)

And what would the GB be for (other than the obvious of showing off USAF themed aircraft)?

Ok, I had to go eat my words  :o

While I'm not going to make law without the nods of my fellow mods, I *think* that since this a group build, we should judge & applaude the kits that were built during the set time, and not do the same for models finished before.

I have sent a message to my cohorts and hopefully soon we'll get this issue cleared up.

Again, apologies for my choice in words earlier.

Would a captured enemy aircraft in U.S. markings be alright? Say an ex-Korean aircraft, for example, brought back to the U.S. for testing.

And I thought this was going to be easy. . . Paging Nick, White courtesy phone!

I for one dont have a problem with that, but I dont know how my compatriots feel about it.

As long as it's not a J-10 'borrowed' from the Chinese Air Force and flown in USAF markings*  then OK, go for it!

*No points for guessing what I'm building for this GB...

Oh bowlarks, wish i'd thought about this one sooner, I have a probably stoopid idea for an AC121 blazing star gunship out of the Heller C121A connie. S.E.A cammo with black underside and BIG GUNS, won't have time to finish it in time even if i started now cos i'm already up to my tonsils with builds. watch this space for it in next years show circut though.
(cover story???. I wuz pissed and it seemed like a good idea at the time m'lud     :o    )

all the best.
