THe "new" project. Between the Skyraider and the Skyshark came the original "fin"
Douglas aviations mating of the Wyverns Python contra engine and a Skyraider...the fin is of course another piece of Douglas history.

I like it bttb :o
From which model did you get the contraprop spinner?
The Trump Wyvern
Neat, but don't you need a bigger stabilizer/rudder? :D
QuoteThe Trump Wyvern
The rest of Trumpeter model can make the proposed jet version of Wyvern. See Tony Butler's

Why?? ....you trying to sell something??? :P :P :P :P
...only if I mod a 1/72nd B-52 ! Seriously, a great concept...like the sturdy fuselage with the large engine.
Wow what a smashing idea there Dork! She'd look awesome in SEA camo!
Brian da Basher
I like where you are going with this!!
Looking good!
Regards,
Greg
I like what you've done here, has a very cool look to it.
Baby's got "fin"

I think with the complete prop assembly in place,it justifies the "fin".....................................others may know better.
Dig it ! And what a perfect name!
That is just mind blowing! It looks fast sitting still. Are you going to model it with the wings folded?
And, yes, I'll take some of those fine cookies, since they are perfect for sharing. ;)

The jury is still out on the wing fold.......................however you are far to late for the cookies, that tin is full up with spare bits and bobs.
Great work Dork! A neat concept wonderfully executed, I can't wait to see it finished.
~Steve
Great White, Dork!!
The fin looked like a building, but, once the props are on, man, the looks change spectacularly!
Melikesit!!

Update on the "GW"
Had to search out a beefed up undercart then applied the first coat of the colour.

Im still thinking about the canopy type. Im leaning towards the heavy frame "ground attack?"one, which could later sport the SEA scheme although it does have the old Skyshark look to it..or the standard Skyraider canopy. Feel free to chip in with your thoughts.
I would use heavy frame.
Wow that's some wonderful work there Dork! I gotta vote for the heavy-framed canopy too. It really helps obscure the origins of this beauty! Not only that, but it looks tough as nails.
Brian da Basher
QuoteI gotta vote for the heavy-framed canopy too. It really helps obscure the origins of this beauty!
I agree. And it seems to suit the overall shape of the aircraft better than the Skyraider canopy.
Now that would look interesting posed alongside my Australian Skyshark ?
....and why not. Only the impossible takes a little longer
Wow Dork, that is a thing of beauty ! I'd go with the original frame canopy, the heavy one makes it look too clunky.
Progress update,
a gloss coat and a few markings are adding a bit of "life" .
Im still working on the two canopies..............bit like old King Sol.

Id definetly go for the last canopy
Coming along nicely...a defiinite jmn confuser !
Dork, it's a close race between the two, but I'd have to go with the latter as well; as stated before it fits the aircraft better. Beautiful work so far  , I love the Korea era paint scheme, IMHO much better than the Vietnam era camouflage or overall grey. Have you thought about armament yet?
~Steve
QuoteHave you thought about armament yet?

Steve old mate.............................I havent thought about me dinner yet :(
I personally prefer the bubble. The heavier canopy just seems to "overpower" the design to me.
QuoteI personally prefer the bubble. The heavier canopy just seems to "overpower" the design to me.
I agree wiht Canis, the bubble looks "faster" if you will...
I'm with the framed canopy, I think it adds character. It looks slightly too large IMHO but it's nothing serious. You could cut it shorter & fair it in with Milliput or similar if your happy to do a little chopping & sanding.
Wow, that's something of a rarity old friend.... a Dork project that did not require a raiding party to descend upon my decal stash. Poor thing is still trying to receover from your last 'visit'....
Great SharkVern, btw !
Ian

Who told you that?????............................................Ill be round 0800 .............................AS ARRANGED
I really dont know where you people get these ideas from.
I also vote for the bubble.
We are voting, right?
As soon as I saw the heavier framed canopy, the originality and uniqueness (is that a real word?) of the overall design struck me much more than the bubble one. Makes it stand out that much more, IMHO.
It is a beautiful opportunity to watch this one come together! :)
Quote
We are voting, right?
Only if you like the the bubble...........the heavy frame brigade are voting "left".
THe canopy choice was even discused on a few occasions at the SIG AGM on Saturday, it seems to have caused a minor stirring of the muddy waters ( no not THAT Muddy Waters) at the bottom of the WIF pond, with very definite opinions from both camps..........................apart from Raddish whos' ......welll.......just camp. :P B)
Check out our mate Archibalds thread ,he also has a Skyraider "family member" on the go,which is looking very interesting.............................................and I only steal ideas from the best :ar:
Narses2 has a rather cheeky littleAustralian Skyshark lurking in his collection, this is turning into an unintentional "Theme"
The original u/c assembly seemed very spindley,so I figured todays update would be to "beef" it up a bit. The intention is to put a twin tail wheel bogey at the rear.
This is the British produced Botham u/c units in place.(in the power off settings)

Can this be entered in Goobers build?? TrumpeterWyvern prop,Airfix Skyraider( been in the loft over 10years as a French job),Hasegawa Nate cockpit,Monogram Panther struts,Italari B26 tail,HasegawaSkyhawks drop tank,Revell F111 nose wheels and wing tanks from aforementioned B26.
Looks like the left won.
Completed kit looks great.
Philp,Click on the thumbnail, its a hung vote ,left AND right catered for.
Dork that sucker looks mean. How mean? Mean enough to make you soil yourself if that thing came overhead.
That looks so feasible to my untrained in engineering eye-its great!
Van

Couldn't have said it better myself! Beautiful work Dork, from every angle she looks like a winner.

One of your best, old friend..... by some considerable margin.
Ian
Nice one!
Not a great fan of the dark blue navy scheme but it looks nice on that puppy.
Great stuff mate
Chris
that's stunning!
Just afoot note before I put this project to bed. Thanks for the interest gents,as for those poor sad souls that wanted the building details and pics...there in your mail box.
Every build we do I think there are lessons to be learned and this was no different. So when I do it in 1:48 hopefully I will remember to have better planning and a better painting schedule.
I was pleased with the weathered tanks, but I think they should have been sprayed rather than brush painted and rubbed down.
I did test a few weapon fits out. But I should have decided where to go before I started painting.....pylons etc really should be in place before paint as all the test fitting and adjustments take there toll. :banghead: I rather liked using this 1:48 scale rocket on its own mounts. A bit like the "mighty mouse" If I'd gone that route I would have mounted five and of course filled in the 1:72 hard point slots. In 1:48 I have no idea where I would get 1:32nd rockets. :(
If I had choosen a wings down, instead of the quick and easy (lazy) folded I'd go for a dihedral similar but not as great as a Corsair and Spitfire cannons would have been a must.
Click on the thumbnails to se what I mean.

Ill leave it in a dark room for a while then strip it down,I can see it re surfacing in SEA or even gullgray/white with all those rocket pods and "crispy critter" tanks.( I should live that long)
Meanwhile there are a few more variations to get of of this box of tricks.
and that trike Skyraider is   interesting.

Yowsa Dork this one's a real winner! I'm glad you went with the framed canopy. It adds that extra bit of mystery and gives it a real tough look. Stunning work!

Very plausible. A mean looking beast and great modelling!
