Title: This one, I still don't know
Post by: Rafael on December 26, 2006, 04:49:47 AM
Ok, Gents. This is it: I want to make moulds for some castings I dream of...

The thing is, in my country, Venezuela, nobody knows about a liquid silicone rubber RTV compund in 1 or 2 or n parts.....

I asked a couple Artists, and all they know is about moulding in plaster....

I can find 2 parts resin almost everywhere, but the only popularly known application is in the auto body repair with horrible fiberglass-resin patches... not much chance for moulding there, anyway....

I ask, then, what other media could be safely used to mould an assembled/dissasembled model to finally cast parts or entire fuselages?

All references, Internet Sites, and advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank U All

Rafa

Here are some good sites to start with:

http://www.hirstarts.com/moldmake/moldmaki...g.html#silicone (http://www.hirstarts.com/moldmake/moldmaking.html#silicone)

http://www.fxsupply.com/mold_cast/mold_cast.html (http://www.fxsupply.com/mold_cast/mold_cast.html)

http://www.gremlins.com/denis_bohm/mold_cast.html (http://www.gremlins.com/denis_bohm/mold_cast.html)

You can buy supplies from Micromark, SmallParts, and a bunch of other places...I am sure they ship to Venezuela.

Here's another how-to link:

Most of my molding supplies come from "Smooth-On" who ship all over the world and they have some very good instructional sections on their site for casters at every possible skill level:
