Not much to report actually, had the fuselage together for a month or 2, but the thought of all that sanding put me off. Since we had an out-of-season spring clean today (prior to putting the house on the market) this baby has gone from 1 of 12 on the workbench to 1 of 3.
Now, I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but do any parts of this model actually fit together?
I have found this model to be very frustrating so far.
Still haven't decided which colour scheme to go for - it will be RAF DG/DSG/LAG, but will it be 2 colour or 3 colour roundels?
QuoteNow, I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but do any parts of this model actually fit together?
It's a dog alright. But if you look on page 178 of Project Cancelled you can see a very prominent join between the wing surfaces and the fuselage that I spent a great deal of time, inaccurately as it turned out, removing.
Dogs are mans best friend, Nev !
Looking good, BTW. I need to get going on mine when I get back. I'm having a hard time not building it Canadian, tho !
 not Canadian? :o
You feeling alright mate?
I've had MSN & PM discussions with several of you regarding squadron markings. Here are the 1/32 bars astride the 1/72 fuselage roundel.
Doesn't look out of place does it?
Yep. And I was contemplating nicking the wing roundels off a 72nd Hunter.
3 coats of Light Aircraft Grey and Dark Sea Gray later.....
I gotta say, this build is a lot more fun now I'm not struggling to build the damn thing!
And the big 45 squadron bars idea is off - they are too big for the forward fuselage :(
Very intriguing! Looking forward to more of your progress shots...
About the mis-aligned parts: it's been fun reading various magazine-published reviews of the problems the model presents. They all try to be polite but the bottom line appears to be that this baby's a very tough haul until you get past the glued airframe stage.
I'll have to snip some pieces off their sprues and do some test-fitting to see just how bad it is...
Nev,
I think I have some 45 Sqn markings from a Matchbox Hunter if you want them.
Steve
Looking good, Nevster ! I was gonna say that your 45 Sqn. bars looked right at home beside that roundel, but if they don't fit the fuselage........

Stevie, you're a life-saver!
Just PM me your address :D
Arrived this morning, thanks Steve :)
Really starting to look the part now I reckon
She looks great in camo.
With a fair wind I reckon I'll get her done this weekend. Just things like the radome & undercarriage detail to paint - probly finish that this evening, then decals tomorrow....
Your shaming me in to getting on with my Belgian one Nev - looking good
Looking good :D ...............................thinks, must get one of mine started
Finished!
After all that agonising over which squadron to do, in the end I did the first one off Jennings' sheet! :dum: (not that there's anything wrong with that - we love what you did J B) )
Unfortunately, those 45 Squadron Bars you sent me Steve are too small :( I'll keep my eye out for some 1/48 Hunter/Tornado decals to add at a later date - that forward fuselage looks really bare with just a roundel.
You know what I like to say about "a fuzzy digicam hides many a modelling sin". Throw in some poor lighting, and no close-ups and she looks about half-decent.
ie, this isn't my best model. The black bits especially, my Tamiya Flat Black just would not co-operate, behaved horribly :( Newish bottle too. Throw in all the kits problems and my usual combination of laziness and bog-standard skills.
And yet, like a mother forgets the pain of childbirth, I am already forgetting how un-fun this kit was to make. Hey, its a TSR2!!!
Now, where did I put those Saudi decals.....
Last one for luck. Steve, I'll give you those decals back at Telford.
I like it Nev! Looks smashing in that camo paintjob and squadron markings! It's a winner, even if it lacks spats.
Cool stuff! B)
Brian da Basher
Well I for one think it bloody nice Nev like Steve I'll have to re-start mine now
QuoteLast one for luck. Steve, I'll give you those decals back at Telford.
TSr looks great Nev B) B)
And as far as the transfers go, just keep them I'm sure you find something to put them on, got some 1/32 ones if they are any good ;)
Thanks guys. Steve - I have 1/32 45 sqdn markings, that was what started me on my quest for some suitable sized roundel bars.
Lee - especially appreciate your compliment :)
Wicked Nev!
Very sleek, very believable. Great job, Nev! Realize the troubles you had with their fit, etc. but, in the end, you made it look like it came from a shake'n'paint Tamigawa kit.

Took a couple of pictures in daylight (tho still a bit dark :( )
The Phantom is there purely to show how big the TSR2 is (the Phantom isn't small after all) and NOT to annoy Lee. Also its off Midway which was Eddies old ship.
This model is now starting to grow on me, she captures that early 70s RAF look I was after :)
EDIT: would help if I attatched the photo :dum:
Amazing Nev, that is a great looking build. Damm good job.
Well, she's one of the first birds in service going by the codes & the camo. When I did her I was thinking of those early RAF Buccs -very clean and shiny, not much under the wings. Rather like the Eurofighters are only now starting to acquire a bit of grime and carrying some stores.
I was thinking 45 in the early 70s would be like the first Lightnings with 74, they were more of a unit of test-pilots than a front-line fighter squadron.
That sure is one great looking TSR.2 B) .
I would also like to compliment you on your Vigilante F-4. I got to the Midway a bit too late as they had already transitioned to VFA-151. I would have loved to work with the Phabulous Phantom. ^_^
Eddie
Any chance of a head-on view of the F-4 & TSR-2 together ???
I'll see what I can do - gotta go to work now :(
